Study in Austria

The country has a total of 61 universities that offer higher education in approximately 790 study programs. The education framework in Austria is quite similar to that in India, but the unique way of providing professional degrees with training included makes them special in their own way. The universities offer various certificate, diploma, undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and doctoral (Ph.D and M.Phil) courses in approximately all disciplines.

A certificate is typically referred to as a record proving that a person has successfully completed predetermined coursework or skill development in a particular area. There is a significant amount of variation in certificate programs' content, prerequisites, and length. These programs can range in length, but the majority can be finished in two to three years, depending on whether you take classes full- or part-time.

A diploma is a certificate given to students who successfully complete predetermined coursework in a particular subject, field, or industry. Following the completion of a degree program, academic institutions frequently award diplomas.

Undergraduate courses usually have a duration of 3 to 4 years, but if a candidate wishes to take a professional course, he or she may have to complete a total of 5 years to get a degree. The eligibility for the UG courses is that the candidates have to complete their schooling and pass with good marks to get admission. The country has universities that offer undergraduate courses in various specializations such as business, arts, management, education, teaching, technology, engineering, architecture, health, humanities, economics, sociology, and many more. The students have to study the major subjects along with some optional courses that may be useful in their professional career.

The master’s courses are a semi research kind of program for 1–2 years where the students learn about specific topics and have to submit a thesis to complete the course. The eligibility requirement for the PG courses is that a student should have an UG degree in a similar specialization from a recognized university by the Austrian educational board. The classes for the master’s degree are in seminar mode, which at its peak offers a great deal of exchange of ideas and student participation. The PG courses offer students a wide range of knowledge on a particular subject, which will be useful for them later on during their doctoral program.

The research from the universities in Austria is highly appreciated all over the world. The students need to apply for admission to the Ph.D programs offered by the different universities in Austria. The students have to complete their graduation in a similar specialization and need to get three letters of recommendation along with passing the entrance examination, which is the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). It is highly costly to pursue a Ph.D in Austria, but fellowships and assistantships are provided for a full time Ph.D program.
