Campus facilities

The China University of Political Science and Law has two campuses. The Haidian, or Jimenqiao, campus is located in downtown Beijing, and is home to all graduate programs except the Juris Master (JM). The suburban Changping campus is home to all undergraduate programs and the JM program. It is located in the northern part of the city, close to famous landmarks like the Great Wall of China, the Ming Tombs, and the Mangshan Forest Park.

An annual Sports Meet is held for students in CUPL every year; this provides an opportunity for the best sportspeople on campus to display their skills. There are many categories, from track and field to soccer to indoor sports like basketball, volleyball, and table tennis. Most competitions are held in the stadium on Changping campus, and both undergraduate and postgraduate students participate. Health and fitness are priority areas for all students, with several gyms, sports courts, and grounds allowing members of the university to stay fit and take part in recreational sports and group exercise activities. There are also physical endurance activities like the annual university marathon and long distance run; these allow all students to challenge themselves and get fit for a cause.

The academic calendar is filled with extracurricular sports and cultural events that help students explore their interests and enhance their skills outside the classroom, in addition to several symposia and industry talks and seminars. Many annual festivals and events are celebrated with great pomp and ceremony, including the Mid-Autumn Festival in September, National Day in October, the PG Sports Meet in October, State Constitution Day in December, and the Chinese Spring Festival in January.

Scholarship

Three types of Chinese Government Scholarships (CGS) are awarded to eligible students at CUPL:

  • The CGS - Bilateral Program is intended for UG and PG students of CUPL from countries which have an exchange agreement with the Chinese Government. UG applicants to this scholarship must be enrolled in a program where the medium of instruction is Chinese, while Master’s and PhD applicants can be enrolled in either English or Chinese medium courses. The full Scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, and insurance costs, with an additional living allowance of RMB 2,500 per month (undergraduates), RMB 3,000 per month (Master’s students) or RMB 3,500 per month (PhD students). The partial version of the scholarship covers one of the aspects that the full version covers; usually the tuition fees. Applications must be made through the relevant authorities in a candidate’s home country between January and April of the year in which the program starts, and an online application must be made on the relevant CGS website.
  • The CGS - Silk Road Program is intended for UG and PG students at the University from the Belt and Road countries only. The scholarship perks and award amounts are the same as for the other CGS awards; however, applications for this scholarship must be made directly to CUPL, between March and April of the year of course commencement.
  • The CGS - High Level Postgraduate Program is intended for Master’s students (for up to 3 years) and Doctoral students (for up to 4 years) who display academic excellence and research potential. The amount of financial assistance is the same as for the other CGS programs, and the application must be made directly to CUPL by mid-January.

The Beijing Government Scholarship is awarded to students of any degree at CUPL who display academic excellence and potential. Two kinds of scholarships are offered: the full version gives a complete tuition fee waiver, whereas the partial version pays a portion of the tuition fee, depending on the program. The eligibility criteria for the scholarship are straightforward: international students in good physical and mental health, with respect for Chinese laws, and no criminal record in any country. Selection is made on the basis of educational background, research skills, and language proficiency, and awardees cannot be recipients of any other Chinese government scholarship.

The International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (Confucius Institute Scholarship) is awarded to international students at CUPL who study short term courses and degree programs in Chinese teacher training. Candidates who are selected for this award are given free tuition and accommodation, and provided with a monthly allowance, free medical insurance, and a resettlement subsidy to enable them to travel to the country and buy essential items to start their course.
