Eligibility Criteria

Undergraduate applicants to Université Paris Cité must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Possession of a valid international passport.
  • Completion of a high school diploma or secondary certificate from a recognised institution in any country.
  • Certain courses at the University may mandate a certain set of prerequisite subjects or minimum performance levels required. Programs in creative fields often require applicants to submit a portfolio or a performance video.
  • French is the language of instruction for most undergraduate courses at the University; most Bachelor’s programs require B2 or C1 levels of proficiency in the language.

Applicants to Master’s programs at the University have to satisfy similar eligibility criteria. However, instead of the high school completion requirements, they must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution, with proof of adequate performance as shown through detailed academic transcripts. Certain postgraduate programs (for example, the Master of Business Administration) may require their applicants to have work experience. Most Master’s programs at the University have a set of prerequisite undergraduate courses associated with them.

Admission

International applicants to undergraduate courses at Université Paris Cité must follow these steps:

  • Choice of degree program: Candidates should first go through the eligibility criteria for the course they are interested in. The list of required documents must be checked and scans of all certificates kept ready for submission.
  • Online application: Applicants to Bachelor’s degrees at the University must fill the online form on the Preliminary Admission website. A detailed description of the process can be found on the Campus France portal.
  • Submission of documents: Through the website, applicants must upload all the documents required, including identity papers, academic certificates, grade transcripts, letters of recommendation, and curriculum vitae.
  • French proficiency proof: Depending on the medium of instruction of the chosen course, applicants must upload details of their score on a recognized French test (TCF).
  • Further steps: After the application review process, some Departments may invite students for a further round of selection; for example, an interview or an aptitude test in the relevant subject.
  • Decision: The University sends an email to all candidates within a few weeks of their application; successful applicants can proceed to register.

The next step in the admission process is registration; all students who receive an offer of admission must register on the student website of the University. At this time, they pay registration fees, choose their courses for the first semester, and complete any steps specific to their chosen degree program. Once the registration is officially complete, international students can apply for a student visa.

The French long term student visa application process requires the candidate to submit several documents at the nearest Embassy or Consulate. These include passport scans, academic certificates, proof of admission, proof of payment of fees, and a police letter certifying that the candidate has a clean criminal record. Once the visa is issued and the student arrives in Paris, he or she must visit the authorities within the first week of stay to present original copies of all documents (if requested) and obtain a residence permit for the first year of study at Université Paris Cité.

Fees

Tuition fees at French state universities are subsidized by the Government for both domestic and international students, in a bid to attract the best talent across the world. Therefore, students at Université Paris Cité pay only registration fees each year. These vary according to the type of program, as follows:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: 170 Euros per year.
  • Master’s Degree: 243 Euros per year.
  • Doctoral Degree: 380 Euros per year.

Before the start of each academic year, students of the Université Paris Cité must pay the student life and campus contribution (CVEC) fee. This amounts to 95 Euros per year, and is used to fund healthcare, sports, cultural, and campus facilities for students. A certificate of successful payment of this fee is needed to confirm acceptance of the offer of admission. The CVEC fee is applicable to all students except those admitted under exceptional circumstances, e.g. refugees and asylum seekers. Other one time costs may include comprehensive emergency insurance and Residence Permit fees.

The main sources of spending for international students at Université Paris Cité are living costs. If opting for private accommodation, monthly rents can range from 600 to 900 Euros. The University also provides low cost housing within its student dormitories. This is typically half the cost of a private apartment. Students at the University must also budget for food, travel, shopping, and entertainment; this can add up to 500 Euros per month, given that Paris is one of the more expensive cities in Europe.

Campus facilities

The Université Paris Cité campus is spread over 20 locations, primarily in the Greater Paris region, with approximately half of the campuses concentrated in the heart of the city.

The Student Health Service at Université Paris Cité provides free medical checkups and guidance sessions for all members of the University community; this is funded by the compulsory CVEC fee.

The cultural department organizes regular student trips to dance, music, theater, and cinema events in Paris. It allows students to access discounts and sets up workshops to enable them to appreciate the events happening in the city.

Sports events at Université Paris Cité are organized and overseen by the Department of Physical Activities. This Department teaches sports courses during the first year of all undergraduate and postgraduate programs; these count towards the overall credit requirement.

The Student Life Department at Université Paris Cité assists tens of thousands of students every year with finding the best possible housing to fit their budgets. Nearly 7,000 places are available in student dormitories, with occupancy options ranging from single rooms to shared flats.

This is administered by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and is awarded to the most academically brilliant students in the incoming postgraduate batch.
