Most Departments conduct teaching and research activities in various fields of economics, humanities, and social sciences.
Applicants to undergraduate programs (both domestic and international) at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne must satisfy the following requirements:
Master’s course applicants must satisfy a similar set of requirements. The difference is that all Master’s program applicants must submit degree certificates and academic transcripts from a recognized Bachelor’s degree program, certified by the relevant University authorities.
Applicants to three year PhD programs at the University must have completed a Master’s degree and submit a detailed research plan in consultation with their prospective PhD supervisors.
International applicants to Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne must complete the following steps to secure admission:
Once online registration is completed, students can use the proof of fee payment and successful enrolment to apply for a Long Term student visa. This must be done at the nearest French Embassy or Consulate, and the process normally takes a few weeks, though there can be delays during the busy summer months.
After arriving in France, international students must apply for a Residence Permit within the first week of their stay in the country. During this process, they may be asked to present original documents for verification.
An essential step during registration is the payment of the student life and campus contribution (CVEC) fee. This amounts to 95 Euros per year, and is used to fund healthcare, sports, cultural, and campus facilities for students. A certificate of successful payment of this fee is needed to confirm acceptance of the offer of admission and to apply for a French long term student visa. The CVEC fee must be paid by all students except those admitted under exceptional circumstances, e.g. refugees and asylum seekers, and even scholarship and grant holders do not have this fee waived.
Tuition fees at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne are subsidized by the Government for both domestic and international students in a bid to attract the best talent to its undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Therefore, students at the University pay only registration fees each year. These vary according to the type of degree program, as follows:
Students who choose to stay in one of the partner dormitories of Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne pay relatively low accommodation fees, with monthly rents ranging from 300 to 550 Euros. Students who opt for private housing pay significantly higher rents, with the maximum rent for a room in an apartment in central Paris exceeding 900 Euros per month; the cost is at least 40% less for campuses in the Ile de France region. Other living costs include food, transport within the city, shopping for personal items, and study materials. These add up to 400 Euros per month on average for students who eat at campus restaurants.
The main campus of Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne is situated in the heart of the historic Latin Quarter in Paris. It is home to several key Departments of the University. The other 24 campus locations are scattered throughout the city of Paris and the Ile de France region that surrounds the capital city. The suburban locations have extensive green open spaces.
Paris is filled with world famous restaurants and cafes, but the University provides several reasonably priced dining options for its students, with ten restaurants spread across the city. At these locations, students can buy a food pass for 2.85 Euros per meal, which is much lower than the average cost of food in the city.
Paris is rated as one of the top student cities in the world partly because of its vibrant cultural life. The University benefits from its proximity to theaters, opera houses, film societies, and musical conservatories. Students can benefit from special passes to access unlimited cultural events at specified locations for a few Euros per month.
Sport is an integral part of student life at the University. Sports activities are organized at several levels. All students are encouraged to join one or more sports and fitness clubs; these have weekly training sessions designed to improve overall health and sporting skill. The University is home to several state of the art sports facilities to support its athletic programs: all the major locations have easy access to stadiums, gymnasiums, indoor sports venues, tennis courts, and track and field arenas.
The most prestigious financial award for Master's and Doctoral students at the University is the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship. This was established by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to attract the best worldwide research talent to the University. Awardees are selected based on academic excellence: Master's applicants cannot be older than 25, and PhD applicants cannot be older than 30 years of age. The Scholarship awards 1,181 Euros per month and potentially a living costs allowance in some cases. It is awarded for up to two years. Further information on similar grants for Master's students can be found on the Campus France website. A unique feature is that students from developing countries have an advantage when applying for the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship.
Several countries provide scholarships for students who receive an offer of admission from the University. These may be partly subsidized by large corporations from the home country. For example, Fulbright Scholarships are awarded to American students at the University, and entail a complete tuition fee waiver, in addition to an allowance to help pay living and housing costs.
