Eligibility Criteria

There are different eligibility criteria for different courses offered at the university. All the students are required to fulfill them in order to get admission to the university. Here are some of the basic and general eligibility criteria for different academic levels, which are mentioned below.

For admission to an undergraduate program, students are required to pass their 10+2 or an equivalent level of examination from a recognized university in a similar specialization. The university also offers admission to transfer students as long as they can complete their remaining credits.

For admission to the master’s programs, students are required to have an undergraduate degree of at least 4 years in a similar specialization from a recognized university. The students are required to appear in an entrance examination required by their desired courses. Students from India need to appear in an English proficiency test.

The students are offered admission to the doctoral programs based on their previous academic records, as they need to have a postgraduate degree in a similar specialization from a recognized university.

Admission

The applicants need to follow the given procedure to get admission into their desired courses at the university.

  • The candidates need to visit the official website of the university and visit their desired course section.
  • The candidates need to check the eligibility criteria of their desired courses before applying for the admission.
  • If the candidates are eligible to apply for admission to their desired course, they can do so by visiting the admissions portal of the university.
  • The candidates need to register themselves with their name, date of birth, and email IDs.
  • The Candidates have to login again to fill in the application form with the required details and documents.
  • The candidates are required to provide their transcript, resume, recommendation letter, entrance exam scorecard, response letter in order to complete the application form.
  • The candidates can submit the application form by paying a $95 non-refundable application fee.
  • The application is reviewed by the department of the desired course by the expert professors.
  • After complete analysis of the application forms, the university informs the selected students to write a response letter to their department to confirm their admission.

Fees

The tuition fee for undergraduate courses at the university may vary for different specializations, but a general tuition fee is $62941, and the total cost of attendance, which will include the books, supplies, personal expenses, housing, and food, will be around $84517. 

Students pursuing a master's degree must register for classes and pay tuition for a minimum of three semesters of full-time study. They will then be billed at an estimated rate of $3,495 per credit moving forward. The master's summer tuition will be calculated based on the number of credits taken, up to a maximum of one-half the full-time fall/spring tuition. 

The total cost of attendance for the domestic students pursuing a master’s degree will be around $86497, and the same for the international students will cost around $85588. The total cost of attendance for a doctoral degree at the university for one academic year will be $44929.

Campus facilities

On a total area of 8,693 acres, including the 7,044 acres of Duke Forest, Duke University currently owns 256 structures. The campus is divided into four main areas: the medical center, the west campus, the east campus, and the central campus. A free bus service connects all of these areas. The campus offers facilities like athletics, arts, housing, dining, culture, health, libraries, and many more. 

The campus offers an international level of sports facilities, and the students have passion for any sport offered at the university. The campus offers sports like baseball, basketball, football, fencing, cross country, rowing, softball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, and many more. Many of the students at the university had performed at an international level.

Duke has a growing culture for the arts with each passing day, and it offers all the facilities for the students in the area of performing arts as well as visual arts. The university offers proper assistance to the students in the fields of music, dance, theater, and many more. 

The Perkins, Bostock, and Rubenstein Libraries on West Campus, the Lilly and Music Libraries on East Campus, the Pearse Memorial Library at the Duke Marine Lab, and the independently run libraries serving the schools of business, divinity, law, and medicine make up Duke Libraries, one of the top 10 private research library systems in the country.

Scholarship

The students do not need to fear the tuition fee and other expenses at the university, as they offer a merit scholarship for which they consider every student enrolled in any course at the university. Generally speaking, there isn't a separate application for merit scholarships. The Robertson Scholarship and the Nakayama Scholarship are the two exceptions.

The initial financial aid package that a student receives will almost certainly include grants, federal loans, and work study. It will affect their initial aid proposal if the student later receives additional funding, such as from outside scholarships.

The students receive various grants from the university that they don’t have to pay back, while the loans are given to them on the condition that they return them after the completion of their academic program.
