Eligibility Criteria

Entry requirements for undergraduate courses for international applicants to SUFE are as follows:

  • The applicant should be a citizen of a country other than China.
  • The age of the applicant should be between 18 and 45. This is in contrast to many other UG programs in top Chinese Universities, where the cutoff age is 25 rather than 45.
  • The candidate should be in sound mental and physical health.
  • The applicant should be on track to complete a high school degree or diploma by September of the year in which the chosen program starts.
  • For UG courses, where the medium of instruction is Chinese, the candidate should have a Level 4 or Level 5 HSK test certificate, depending on the course.
  • In case the applicant wishes to apply for exemption from the written test, he or she can submit SAT I scores (minimum 1300) or proof of excellent Year 12 examination results.

Entry requirements for Master’s courses taught in English for international applicants are similar to the UG entry requirements. However, the applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree, or be in the final year of such a degree, from a recognized institution. Instead of the Chinese HSK test, he or she needs to submit a TOEFL (minimum score of 80) or IELTS (minimum score of 6.5) certificate. For master’s courses taught in Chinese, HSK Level 5 test scores are needed, with a minimum performance level of 180.

Eligibility criteria for PhD candidates are similar to those for master’s applicants; however, the degree certificates and transcripts submitted need to correspond to a completed master’s degree.

Admission

Undergraduate international applicants should follow these steps:

  • Choice of major, after reading all details on the relevant program webpage.
  • Filling the application form on the SUFE online Applicant Portal.
  • Uploading all the documents required (passport scan, notarized High School degree or diploma certificate scan, academic transcripts, Chinese proficiency certificates).
  • Completion of the written online test, in case exemption is not granted. This is held in May every year.
  • Completion of the online interview; this is held immediately after the test.
  • The Admission Office releases results on the Applicant Portal by the end of May.

The process for international Master’s course applicants is similar, except that two Letters of Recommendation and detailed study or research plans are required to be uploaded as part of the admission process. A police clearance certificate and a physical examination report are also required. A similar process can be followed for PhD applicants as well.
