A radical change is underway for the higher education system in India. The new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has a lot of surprises up its sleeves. While all facets of the education system have been modified in some way or the other, the changes planned for higher education will be implemented over the next four to 20 years. Some key points of the policy are the introduction of multi-disciplinary courses by all colleges, doing away with the M. Phil program, and pitching foreign universities to operate in India.

A major transformation will be the commencement of four-year undergraduate programs, with exit options after one year, with a certificate, and two years, with a diploma. These modifications will change the operational scenario of top universities in India. Keeping the NEP 2020 in mind, IIRF Centre for Institutional Research has chalked out a framework for university ranking that is based on meticulous research, and compiled by the industry leaders. The ranking takes into consideration only the regular courses run by a best university in India, excluding the distance learning or part-time courses.

Impetus to Academic Research:

Moreover, much emphasis is given on academic research by the faculty, studying points like research area, industry impact, and income. These parameters have brought the IIRF ranking for top university 2021 in sync with the new National Research Fund envisaged by the NEP. The NRF will work towards seeding, funding, coordinating, and monitoring research and innovation initiatives. The NEP seeks to bring in action a patent policy structure at the university level to facilitate more patent applications. Such partnership between academia and industry is one of the primary factors considered by the universities ranking by IIRF.

Coverage and Methodology:

The survey done by the team at IIRF covers over 300 universities from all over India and across study domains. Apart from popular courses like engineering and medicine, the ranking will also find out the leading colleges for law, design, and top universities for architecture. This is again in line with the NEP that seeks to enhance the inclusion of subjects related to arts and humanities, alongside technical courses. In the near future, students will have an option to study arts and science stream subjects simultaneously, giving them a wider canvas to explore their skills.

For finding the best engineering university in India, the factorsused by IIRF includes presence of various laboratories, ease of experimentation and support for scientific research. Similarly, the team observes dominance of innovation, practical pedagogy and industry collaboration for accurately identifying the best design university. Placement support is another important variable that is covered by the ranking survey. It takes into account the perception of third parties as well.

How it can help you:

The ranking provided by IIRF will be a tool that students can use to help them target the ideal university that offers them the best of pedagogy and research support. The ranking for private universities in India is further segregated into two sections, namely, Top 40 Private Universities and  50 Emerging Private Universities. Separate lists for best 25 government and private colleges are provided for fair ranking of law university in India. The team at IIRF has worked on the rankings in collaboration with Maction Consulting Pvt. Ltd. With an approach that negates any errors of judgment, it seeks to bridge the gap present in the domain of university rankings.

IIRF performed a survey on over 300 universities from all over India and across different study domains. It ranks top universities in different institutions for law, design, architecture, and general universities on strict parameters and has released its ranking of universities. The following are the survey results performed by IIRF
