What is pre-matric scholarship?

The Pre Matric scholarship is to provide support to students with disabilities to study further as they face several challenges in terms of physical, psychological, physical, and mental. And at times due to such barriers these students often miss the opportunity.

So the main objective of this scholarship is to prepare students who are disabled so that they can find a dignified place in society and can earn their livelihood. In simple words, all students who are disabled and financially weak need not worry about their education with the help of this scholarship.

Who is eligible to receive the scholarship?

Disable students who are willing to apply for the pre-matric scholarship should follow the general conditions of eligibility listed below:

  • School- Student must be a regular full-time attendee of class 9 or 10 from a recognized or government school.
  • Marks previously scored- Students who have 40% and above marks along with a disability certificate are eligible for this scholarship.
  • The annual income of parents- The annual income of parents must not be more than Rs 2.50 lakh.

Who has been notified as to the minor communities under this scholarship?

The ones who have been notified to the minor communities under the pre-matric scholarship for students with disabilities include the nationals of India only.

As per the sources, it is known that the scholarships will be distributed on the basis of % of the population of PwDs of that State in comparison to the total PwD population of India in accordance with Census 2011.

Furthermore, know that not more than two children with disabilities of the same parents can avail benefits under this scheme.

Also, this scholarship is given only for one year to study in any particular class. However, if any student fails and repeats the class, he/she will not be given any further scholarship.

Pre matric scholarship amount for 2023

The amount of maintenance allowance for hostellers in an academic year for 12 months is Rs. 800 on a monthly basis and for day scholars it is Rs 500 per month.

Besides, the amount of book grants for both hostellers and day scholars is Rs. 1000 per annum. Furthermore, candidates according to their disability shall be paid as under:

  • Visually Impaired – Rs 4000 per annum
  • Physically Disabled (OH) – Rs 2000 per annum
  • Hearing Impaired – Rs 2000 per annum
  • Intellectual Disabilities – Rs 2000 per annum
  • All other types of disability – Rs 2000 per annum

What selection process would be followed under the Pre Matric scholarship plan?

The process of Pre Matric scholarship for students with disabilities selection is eligible to students on the basis of their marks obtained in the qualifying exam and on parent annual income basis.

However, the details of this scheme and inviting applications will be issued through advertisements in newspapers, media, and publicity sources by The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.

In the event of a tie in percentage of marks (having the same marks), the disabled candidate with a higher percentage will get preference. If still, the tie doesn’t break, the age will be taken into consideration, i.e., the older candidate will get preference.

Furthermore, know that the final selection will be done by The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities based on recommendations of the State Education Department.

How to apply for the National Scholarship Program?

The pre-matric scholarship for students with disabilities is applicable for the students of class this to this and those who are willing to apply for this scholarship should be able to meet the eligibility criteria and must follow the given steps:

Step 1: Visit the official website – Every candidate applying for this scholarship must visit the official website i.e. www.scholarship.gov.in. as the scheme is implemented through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Step 2: choose the form type – Once you’ve visited the official website, go to the application form and read all necessary information carefully. Also, students must submit their application through the online system within the last date prescribed for receipt of the application.

Step 3: Fill in the details – Before submitting the application form, students must make sure they fill in all the requisite details like proof of age, photograph, disability certificate, and all other valid personal and required information.

Step 4: Print out the form – Once uploaded in the online system and submitted, make sure you download it and take a printout of the form for future use.

Note: While filling in the online form, make sure you carefully fill in all the details and avoid making any mistakes as any discrepancy may lead to the cancellation of the scholarship.

The scholarship amount will be remitted directly to the eligible students through the PFMS portal by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities through the online portal.

What documents are required to apply for the Scholarship Form?

The documents that you would need to apply for this scholarship form includes as follows:

  • Photo of the applicant
  • Fee receipt of current course year
  • Certificate of previous academic mark sheet
  • Income certificate of the family
  • Age proof certificate
  • Disability certificate
  • Bank account details

Terms and Conditions

  • Female applicants are eligible for 50% of the total number of scholarships. But if there aren’t enough female students, there are qualified male candidates who can fill the open positions. 
  • Under this program, no more than two disabled children of the same parents may apply for benefits. 
  • Based on the recommendations of the relevant state government department, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities will make the final selection of the candidates. 
  • Through PFMS, the scholarship award will be directly deposited into the recipient’s bank account. 
  • The scholarship will not be given for training programs like the Aircraft Engineer’s Courses and Private Pilot Licence Courses at Training – Ship Dufferin (Now Rajendra) courses at the Military College, Dehradun, and programs at pre-examination training centers at the national and state levels in all of India.
