What is Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship?

Earlier known as the “Maulana Azad National Scholarship for Meritorious Girls belonging Minorities” is a scholarship for Meritorious Girl Students belonging to the Minority Communities. It was launched on 3rd May 2003, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi by late Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the National Conference of Educational and Economic Development of Minorities.

The main objective of this scholarship is to provide financial support to girl students belonging to National Minorities. The scholarship will not only promote school education but will also lighten the financial burden of the minor communities.

Who is eligible to receive the scholarship?

Students who are willing to apply for the Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship should follow the criteria listed below.

  • School- Students should be studying from class 9th to 12th. The students who have already crossed the 18-years barrier should certify themselves with a community certificate.
  • Marks previously scored- students must have scored at least 50% marks in their previous class to receive this scholarship.
  • The annual income of parents- The parents should not have an annual income of more than two lakh rupees.

Moreover, the candidate needs to submit an income proof issued by the Competent Authority Board under the government of the state or union territories.

Who has been notified as to the minor communities under this Scholarship?

The ones who are notified as to the minor communities under this scholarship include Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs, Parsis, and Jains according to Section 2 (c) of the National Commission for Monitories Act, 1992.

It is pertinent that they will provide the scholarship depending upon the total population of the minorities, and it will be distributed among the states and union territories as per the 2011 Census reports.

Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship Amount for 2023

For classes IX and X, the amount of scholarship will be Rs. 5000/ each and the amount of scholarship will be provided which will be Rs. 6000/ for each class XI and XII.

Furthermore, know that the scholarship will be used for expenses related to school/college fees, purchase of syllabus books, and stationery accessories along with the payment of lodging/ boarding charges.

What selection process would be followed under the National Scholarship plan?

The process of Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship selection is eligible to students on the basis of their percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying examinations and on parent’s annual income.

Merit lists are based on the marks obtained in the qualifying exam. According to the Census 2011, the State-wise-community-wise quota is fixed on the basis of the minority population of the state.

However, in case there is a shortage of eligible applications from any State/ Union Territory or community, then its balanced quota will be allocated from where the eligible applications have been received.

Furthermore, know that the announcement of the scheme will be done in time by the concerned State/ Union Territory Administration through advertisements in newspapers or other publicity media.

How to apply for the National Scholarship Program?

Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship is applicable for the students of classes 9 to 12 and those who are willing to apply for the program should be eligible and can follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: Visit the official website – It is mandatory for all students to apply online on the website www.scholarships.gov.in as the scheme is implemented through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Step 2: Select the form – Once you’ve visited the website, look for the application form on the given website and tap on it after making sure you’re eligible.

Step 3: Fill in the details – Once the form appears, fill in all the details including your valid personal and qualification information.

Step 4: Print out the form – Once you’ve filled in all the details make sure you don’t make any mistakes and then submit it. Make sure to download the form and print it for further use.

Note: No charges/ fees are required for the online application form. Furthermore, make sure that you have properly entered the Aadhar details in the application form, as the amount of the scholarship is supposed to get deposited to the bank account that is seeded (linked) with the Aadhar number.

Information related to the Bank Account details would be attached in the scholarship form.

Any candidate who is applying for the Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship should carefully choose their bank/branch name. Also, make sure to enter the account no. and IFSC code correctly.

Also, the bank account must be active and must be either in the name of the student or with a legal guardian joint account only.

Moreover, students must check their KYC status from the bank or must be preferably on any schedule with proper IFSC code and all banking facilities.

Note: Any mistake was made in the filling of bank details or if any details are found incorrect or invalid, then the scholarship would be canceled immediately and the amount will not be transferred even if it gets approved.

Cancellation of Scholarship

  • The scholarship will be suspended or canceled if any student violates school discipline or any terms related to the scholarship.
  • The scholarship will be canceled if any student is found to have obtained a scholarship by false statement.
  • The scholarship will be canceled in case of any gap in the academic sessions in studies due to any reason.
