Manipur University is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the Northeast, with 2.5 decades of successful operation before it was recognized as a Central University in 2005. Located in Imphal, it has 116 affiliated colleges spread throughout the state. Manipur University Fees

The academic fees for students of Manipur University have the following components:

  • All PG (and integrated UG+PG) courses have the same tuition fees: INR 1,155 per semester. Any difference among programs rises from laboratory and field work fees. The only exception to this rule is the MVoc (Tourism and Hospitality Management) program, which has tuition fees of INR 5,000 per semester.
  • Academic registration fees of INR 715 must be paid every semester.
  • Students' Activity Fees of INR 1,000 must be paid every year.
  • Other major academic fees common to all PG programs include the annual development fee (INR 500), INR 100 each for annual sports and cultural fees, and procedural charges such as identity card purchase and Wi-Fi access.
  • Field Work charges vary according to the course, up to a maximum of INR 3,000 per year, for students of Library and Information Science.
  • Laboratory fees are below INR 2,000 per semester for most programs except for MSc Biotechnology (INR 5,000).
  • Certain STEM courses (e.g. MCA, Master's in Biotechnology) have Project Work one-time fees of INR 2,000 or INR 3,000.

The living costs for students who stay in one of the 20 hostels on campus include hostel and mess fees, which must be paid every semester. Students who choose to stay off campus must budget for daily transportation costs.

Manipur University Admissions

The eligibility criteria for admission to Manipur University are as follows:

  • PG programs:
    • Students must have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline. The full list of qualifying disciplines for each program is given in the Manipur University prospectus. Some programs (e.g. MBA) admit students with any UG subject combination.
    • Different programs have varying UG aggregate cut-offs, which are either 45% or 50% for General category students except for MVoc and BVoc, which have no cut-offs.
    • Students must submit valid CUET PG test scores.
  • UG programs:
    • Students must have a pass certificate issued by a recognized Board of Higher Secondary Education for the Standard XII examination. Students who are appearing for the Board Examination in the same year as that of their application to MU can also apply.
    • Most UG programs have a cut-off based on the 10+2 aggregate of 45% for General category applicants, or 40% for reserved category students.
    • Applicants must have a valid CUET UG exam score.

Students who wish to apply to Manipur University must follow these steps:

Manipur University Cut-Offs

No CUET UG or CUET PG cut-offs are announced by Manipur University before the application window closes; program-wise cut-offs are determined after the seat allocation process is completed. Each program has an associated cut-off based on the 10+2 Board Examination or UG semester aggregate; this is either 45% or 50% for most courses, with a relaxation of 5% for reserved category applicants. Some PG programs (e.g. MSc Statistics) require applicants with an undergraduate honors degree to have an aggregate of 45%, but non-honors Bachelor's degree holders must have an aggregate above 50%. BVoc and MVoc programs have no cut-off; only a pass certificate in the qualifying examination is necessary.

Manipur University Faculty & Alumni

Manipur University is home to 403 full time Faculty members. Of these, 140 (35%) are Assistant Professors, 51 (13%) are Associate Professors, 77 (19%) are full Professors, and the remaining 33% are employed on an ad-hoc or contract basis. For example, the Professor Mohammad Islamuddin Memorial Cash Award is given to the female student with the best performance in the MA Economics program, and carries an amount of INR 10,000. 4. Academic Merit Scholarships: These are awarded separately by each School to toppers in each stream offered by them, provided that the awardee has an aggregate of 60% or higher. Many of these cash scholarships are also associated with memorial gold medals commemorating past students and distinguished alumni of Manipur University.

5. Central and State Government Scholarships: New entrants to Manipur University can apply for Government financial aid through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP); the vast majority of PG students receive full tuition fee waivers through the post matric scholarship schemes and other funding opportunities via the NSP.
