Sri Sri University

Sri Sri Vihar, Cuttack, Odisha, India – 754006

The contemporary landscape of Indian higher education is undergoing a fundamental transformation, driven by the dual imperatives of the National Education Policy 2020 and the global shift toward sustainability and holistic wellness. At the forefront of this evolution is Sri Sri University (SSU), a multidisciplinary institution established in 2009 in Cuttack, Odisha.

Envisioned by the spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the university was founded on the principle of bridging the gap between Eastern philosophical wisdom and Western technological innovation, creating a pedagogical environment that addresses the intellectual, emotional, and ethical dimensions of human development. As a private university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 12-B, SSU has rapidly emerged as a significant player in the national educational landscape, characterized by its sprawling 188-acre eco-friendly campus and its resolute focus on employability and entrepreneurship.

Institutional Standing and Multi-Year Ranking Analysis

The institutional standing of Sri Sri University is best understood through its performance across diverse ranking frameworks that evaluate academic quality, innovation, and social impact. The university has demonstrated consistent excellence in the International Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF), particularly in the categories of employability and regional leadership. In 2022, the IIRF ranked SSU 8th among all private universities in India in terms of employability, a testament to its curriculum's alignment with industry requirements. This ranking is particularly significant given the competitive nature of the private university sector in India, where institutional value is increasingly tied to graduation outcomes and market readiness.

The university's regional dominance is further evidenced by its IIRF 2025 performance, where it secured the 1st rank in Odisha and the Eastern Zone for Best Private University. Nationally, its position in the IIRF Overall ranking has shown a trajectory of consolidation, ranking 35th out of 103 colleges in 2025. These evaluations are based on seven critical parameters: placement performance, research reputation, teaching resources, industry integration, placement strategies, future orientation, and international outlook.

National and International Benchmarking

The institutional prestige of Sri Sri University is reinforced by its performance in other prestigious national evaluations. For instance, the India Today MDRA Rankings 2025 placed SSU 34th among the Top Private General Universities in India. In the domain of innovation, the university’s performance in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Innovation category (formerly ARIIA) is noteworthy, having secured the 51st position out of 312 participating institutions in 2023. This focus on innovation is not merely academic but translates into tangible institutional behavior, as evidenced by its placement in the 51-100 band of the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements.

Academic Ecosystem and Program Diversification

Sri Sri University provides a multi-disciplinary academic ecosystem that encompasses over 108 academic programs across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The academic structure is organized into nine specialized faculties, each designed to foster a deep synthesis of theoretical knowledge and practical application. Faculty of Management Studies

The Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) is the university's flagship division, catering to approximately 158 postgraduate students and offering five specialized programs including BBA, B.Com. (Honors), and various MBA specializations. The MBA programs are particularly distinguished by their niche focus areas, such as Agribusiness Management and Entrepreneurship, which address specific gaps in the Indian economic landscape. The Agribusiness MBA, for instance, is tailored for students seeking to professionalize the agricultural value chain, a critical sector in the Eastern Indian economy.

Faculty of Engineering and Technology

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) has adopted a forward-looking curriculum that prioritizes the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In collaboration with industry leaders such as IBM, TCS, and L&T, the faculty offers B.Tech programs in Computer Science and Engineering with specializations in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML), Cyber Security, and Data Science. A notable development is the specialization in Electric Vehicle (EV) Technology within the Electrical Engineering track, which addresses the burgeoning demand for green energy professionals in the automotive sector.

Specialized and Emerging Faculties

The diversification of SSU’s academic profile is evident in its commitment to traditional and wellness-focused sciences. The Sri Sri College of Ayurvedic Science and Research Hospital provides a robust BAMS program (Ayurvedacharya), integrated with a National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH) accredited research hospital.

This integration ensures that medical students receive hands-on clinical training within a holistic healthcare framework. Similarly, the Faculty of Health and Wellness offers programs in Yoga, which are accredited by the Yoga Certification Board (YCB), emphasizing the university's leadership in the science of wellness.

The Faculty of Contemplative and Behavioural Sciences offers a unique program -- B.Sc. (Hons.) in Psychology (Contemplative Studies)—which integrates modern behavioral science with meditative practices and mindfulness, reflecting the university's core philosophy of holistic human development.
