Overview

Birla Academy of Art and Culture (BAAC) was established in Calcutta in the year 1964 by Mr. Basant Kumar Birla and Dr. Sarala Devi Birla, with an aim to promote arts, literature, culture, and education. The academy played a pivotal role in establishing Birla Global University, formerly known as BIMTECH, Bhubaneswar. It is a private University and was established after the validation of the Birla Global University Odisha Act, 2015. The University was established with the objective of being an ultimate destination for aspiring new-gen managers. It is devoted to redefining ‘quality’ in education with state-of-the-art facilities and the best of infrastructure and finest faculty.

Academic Performance

At present, the university operates with five schools which being:

  • Birla School of Management providing programmes in Ph.D., MBA, BBA with honours, and different core subjects like Business Analytics, Digital Marketing.
  • Birla School of Communication providing MA in Journalism & Mass Communication (MAJMC) and BA in Journalism & Mass Communication (BAJMC) (Honours)
  • Birla School of Commerce providing M. Com & B. Com (Honours)
  • Birla School of Social Sciences and Humanities providing courses like MA in Economics and BA Economics (Honours) along with Ph.D. programmes
  • Birla School of Law providing BBA.LLB (Honours)
The aim of the university is to register Odisha in the global sphere of higher education.

Along with the courses, students also have extracurricular activities and activities under different clubs and committees which helps them explore more about their hobbies and interests.


Research & Development

The university desires to extend the scope of the existing schools as well as to open new schools for Art and Culture, Literature, Sciences, and research programmes. The fundamental strength of the university lies in its devotion towards research and development. BGU offers Management Development Programmes (MDP) to enhance the performance, motivation, and growth of working professionals. The program is conducted for corporate executives, Government officers, engineers, teachers and management trainees in the field of HR, Finance, General Management, Leadership Development, etc. the duration for which is three to five days. Faculty Development Programmes and Workshops are designed for the management teachers to develop their capacity in understanding recent advances in management research and to learn to improve pedagogies and to better their presentation skills to become an effective management faculty. For the students, the university conducts various workshops, conferences, and seminars for a better learning experience.

Placement Highlights

BGU has reputed campus recruiters like Federal Bank, Deloitte, Britannia, Berger, SBI life, Axis bank, Ramco, HDFC mutual funds, ITC, etc. the highest salary for an MBA student last year was 10.2 lakhs and the average of the top ten is 7.8 lakhs. Students get placed in sectors like banking, consultancy, E-commerce, insurance, financial services, IT. BGU conducts summer placement at their university which gives them experience and knowledge about the work field. The summer placement recruiters are  Ambuja, Axis Bank, Britannia, Canara bank, Coca Cola, Columbia Asia Hospitals, Ernst & Young, Hindalco (Aditya Birla Group), IDBI, Federal Life Insurance, Indian Oil, Jindal Steel and Power, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Mantra, Nalco, Nestle, Reliance Jio, Tata Steel, The Calcutta Stock Exchange, TVS, UCO Bank, Ultratech Cement, Usha, Vedanta, to name a few.
