Overview

Established in the year 1996, IITTM’s primary objective was to expand its activities to a part of the country that is full of tourism potential. It is managed by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. IITTM is engaged in teaching and training along with research and consultancy related to the tourism sector. It is also the sole institute in the country that is dedicated to impart learning on tourism. Over the years, the Institute has established a remarkable identity and has reached at a notable position among Business Schools offering courses for the benefit of the tourism sector in the country. Noticing the immense potential of tourism in Eastern India and realizing the growing popularity of the region on the tourism map of the country led to the establishment of this institute which was named after the famous freedom fighter of the state Baji Rout. Hence, it was formerly known as Baji Rout Regional Centre for Eastern India. The institute has affiliation from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

IITTM has always been dedicated to developing and nurturing quality human resources for the advancement of the tourism sector and its allied services. The institute constantly strives towards training and building professionals with outstanding managerial capabilities to shoulder responsibilities in this sector in an ethical and sensitive manner. IITTM endeavours to train students in a manner so as to sensitize them towards the need for conserving the environment along with safeguarding business interests.

Academic Performance

Indian Institute of Tourism Travel Management, Bhubaneshwar offers many graduates as well as postgraduate courses. It also offers PG diploma and certificate courses. Some courses offered by the institute are MBA in Tourism and Logistics, MBA in Travel and Tourism, PGDM in International Business, PGDM in Travel Tourism and Cultural Heritage, Certification Tourism Studies (CTS), and Diploma Tourism Management(DTM).

Research and Development

To indulge in a concentrated effort towards the overall development of the students, the institute has set-up dedicated committees such as cultural committee, placement committee, sports committee, travel and tourism committee, women empowerment and grievance cell, and anti-ragging squad. The college has research and training-based curriculum developed by trainers working along with college professors to derive the maximum benefit for the students. At the college, continuous evaluation programmes and feedback sessions are conducted for constant improvement in the curriculum along with including the latest innovations and practices that are taking place in the sector. It also provides outdoor visits and projects for the students to understand and learn about the field so that they can get internships and be placed at remarkable companies.

Placement Highlights

The students get internships and are placed in their final year. The training and placement cell helps all students in three ways namely: providing information regarding training opportunities in industries, public/private firms, placement in reputed national and multinational industries, and counselling for higher education. Around 80% of the students here get a good placement. Cox and King, ITPL, Go Ibibo, IRCTC, Country Club, EXIM Logistics, Thomas Cook, and Make My Trip are some of the top recruiters of the college.
