Overview

With the vision of providing India with better education, Jawaharlal Nehru initiated the Indian Institute of Management. The first stone of IIM-L was set in the year 1984. After that, it has helped a million lives to achieve and fulfill their dreams. As a public business school in India, it has reached new heights in education. The quality and standard of education the faculty of IIM-L provide to their students can compete with any other business school in the world. The institute teaches a more creative and practical application of management knowledge to real business problems. IIM-L is the first IIM to have expanded its area to set up a satellite campus especially for Executive Education in the Delhi NCR region.

Academic Performance

The vision of IIM-L is to achieve excellence through educating their students with management knowledge so that they become leaders in their respective fields. IIM-L provides various post-graduate programmes which are Post-Graduate Programme in management, PGP in agribusiness management, and PGP in sustainable management. It also provides PG programs for executives, more so for the working executives called the PGPWE. It is a two-year full-time course. Then there is an International Programme in Management for Executives which is a one-year MBA. Executive Fellowship and Fellowship Programme in Management was launched in 2000-01 which is a doctoral-level programme in IIM-L.

Research & Development

The main aim of IIM-L is to create an environment where there is a creation of knowledge, dissemination, and then application of it in a more interactive manner. It is with the intention of collaborating with various institutes, IIM-L focuses more on Globalization Programmes. The collaboration includes the exchange of students, doctoral students, and faculties with global counterparts. IIM-L to date has completed more than 60 research projects, published more than 200 journals, books, conference papers, and working papers.

Placement Highlights 

IIM has a reputation of giving 100% placement and IIM-L disseminates the same. Last year there was 100% placement in PG programmes, with a total of 447 offers made for the total number of students. 443. 32% of offers were for strategy or consulting roles, 24% were in operations or IT, 19% were in finance, 13% were in general management, 12% were in marketing and many more offers were there for more roles. The highest international offer made was 58.47 LPA, the highest domestic offer was for 54 LPA. Top recruiters include companies like Accenture, Deloitte, Amazon, etc. and top international recruiters include Landmark, Apparel Groups, RPG Group, etc. The IIM-L placement process for IPMX – International Programme in Management for Executives concluded with the highest salary of 52.96 LPA, an average salary of INR 21.5 LPA, and a median salary of 20 LPA for the batch of 2020.

Notable Alumni 

The president of Kellogg’s for the Asia Pacific, Africa, and Middle East, Amit Banati, is a top alumnus of IIM-L who has more than 28 years of work experience in the field and has worked with Procter & Gamble, Cadbury Schweppes, and Kraft food.

Bollywood playback singer Gayatri Iyer is from IIM-L batch 2001, who has worked in various Bollywood films like Salaam Namaste, Roadside Romeo, etc.

Ajit Thakur the CEO of Eros International Media Ltd. at Trinity is a notable alumnus of this institution.

Rohit Suri the President and MD at Jaguar Land Rover India has completed his post-graduation from IIM-L. He has also worked with Hyundai Auto Division and Eicher International Ltd.

The gold medallist of the batch 2008 at IIM-L and the topper of UPSC 2013 Gaurav Agarwal is a notable alumnus.

A famous name Sudhanshu Sarronwala, the Executive Director of marketing and communication at WWF is from this institution. He works at various important organizations like Earth Hour Global where he is the Chairman of the board of directors.
