The headquarters of the University (in Lumami, Nagaland), is home to 33% of the Departments and three important centers: Biodiversity Studies, South East Asian Studies, and the Tribal Research Center. Nagaland University Placements
As one of the top Universities in India, the placement highlights of Nagaland University are as follows:
- Each School and Department has its own Placement Cell; it is a decentralized career system. For example, the Department of Management and the School of Engineering and Technology consistently have the best average placement records.
- Prominent recruiters include Future Retail, Axis Bank, Amazon, Patanjali Ayurved, Vodafone Idea, Nestle India, Tata Consultancy Services, and the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT).
- Each company usually recruits 2-5 students, ensuring that most graduates achieve at least one job offer.
- Not all students register with the placement cell in their Department. For example, the School of Engineering and Technology had 60 registered students in 2024 across all five degrees offered. Many Bachelor’s degree graduates choose to pursue Master’s degrees in their chosen fields, while others work in family businesses or embark on a career in research.
- The number of job offers made during the 2023 placement season in the same School (Engineering and Technology) was 26, for an approximate placement rate of 50% based on the number of students registered.
- Not all Departments have placement cells. Those that do are primarily focused on inviting relevant companies to hire students for internships, live projects, and full time placements. They also work on mock interviews, group discussions, and seminars via distinguished alumni working in different fields.
Nagaland University Cut-Offs
Most programs offered by Nagaland University are Master’s courses. Therefore, the qualifying cut-off is based on the undergraduate aggregate percentage across all semesters. This can be 55% (Arts, Science, or Commerce Departments) or 50% (other Departments). It is relaxed by 5% for reserved category applicants. UG colleges which use a GPA system have a conversion factor applied to compute the equivalent percentage. Certain programs also require entrance test scores e.g. the MBA course allows aspirants to submit CAT, XAT, ATMA, MAT, or CMAT scores. There are no pre-decided cut-offs based on these percentiles; the final cut-off is decided at the end of the selection procedure.
Nagaland University Faculty & Alumni
Nagaland University is home to 232 full time Faculty members. Of these, 115 (50%) are Assistant Professors, 42 (18%) are Associate Professors, and the remaining 75 (32%) are full Professors. Most Faculty members (206 out of 232, or 89%) hold PhD degrees. The average Faculty member has more than 10 years of experience in industry and academia, with the most experienced Professor having 35+ years (422 months) of experience.
The Nagaland University Alumni Association (NUAA) was formed in December 2011. Its main objective is to provide a bridge between the current and future students of the University, to enable them to share innovations and ideas to help develop the University and the society at large. Recent graduates of Nagaland University must register for NUAA by filling the membership form either online or at any of the campuses of the University. Faculty members of NU are also members of the Alumni Association, and work closely with graduates and current students to invite distinguished alumni to conduct guest lectures and training seminars. They also work with the Placement Cell to provide internships and job opportunities via alumni working in local, national, and multinational companies.
Nagaland University Scholarships
As in other top Universities in India, there are multiple financial aid options available to students of Nagaland University. 1,507 of the 2,184 students (69%) receive 100% tuition fee scholarships from various State and Government agencies; they are all PG students, with no students receiving 100% funding from other sources (private trusts and University financial aid). Therefore, the two main categories are:
1. Nagaland State Scholarships: All State Government Scholarships are aggregated on a common portal for both UG and PG applicants. The scholarships are collected under 9 different schemes, including Merit Scholarships, Post Matric Scholarships for SC, ST, and OBC students, Research Fellowships, Disability Scholarships, Agriculture Student Scholarships, and State Technical Scholarships for socially disadvantaged applicants. Together, they allow students to bear the cost of the tuition fee associated with their course of choice, and (in some cases) provide an additional living stipend as well. All applications must be submitted online after the student receives a confirmed offer of admission from Nagaland University.
2. Central Sector Scholarship Schemes: These are the same as those available to students of other Central Universities, and range from Research Fellowships (offered by UGC) to Post Matric Scholarships (that provide full tuition fee waivers and monthly stipends to students from underprivileged communities who have additional financial hardships) and scholarships for single girl children, wards of defense personnel, and students admitted under the sports quota based on regional or national achievements. The deadlines and application modes (both online and offline) are detailed on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Students can typically not avail of more than one scholarship (either State or Central) at the same time.
Nagaland University Preparation & FAQs
Every School and Department at Nagaland University mandates a different set of entrance test scores which it accepts for admission; the preparation strategy must be tailored to the respective examination. Therefore, irrespective of the aptitude test which students choose, they must ensure that they maximize their rank or percentile score by attending classes for at least one year, and completing at least 10 comprehensive mock tests and practice exams to ensure both speed and accuracy.
