The VIT School of Law (VITSOL) is one of the best law schools in Chennai. VITSOL was established by the VIT University in 2014 to impart high-quality legal education of international standards. The vision of VITSOL is to train exceptionally competent, practice-ready, ethically strong, justice-minded, and socially responsible outstanding legal professionals. VITSOL strives to produce competent legal professionals of international standards who can handle and excel in all aspects of the trade. They endeavor to prepare the students in such a way that they can cater to any needs of society.  

Academic performance

VITSOL believes that legal education is not restricted to theories only but is to develop the overall personality of a student into a worthy legal professional. As it is considered to be one of the best law colleges in Chennai, studying here is a unique experience for any student. The curriculum offered by VITSOL allows the students to specialize in the areas they are interested in while giving them a thorough overall knowledge. This surely gives them an edge over other law graduates. Another unique feature of VITSOL is that it strives to offer a well-rounded academic experience to the students. Research is given a place of importance and a knowledge-oriented approach takes precedence over mere rote learning.The students are encouraged to have mooting abilities, oratorical skills, interpretive and analytical skills through moot courts, 

There are around 800 students and 30 highly qualified and motivated professors. National and international conferences, seminars, workshops, debate competitions, and legal aid programs are organized. Faculty Development Programs are conducted to further enhance the knowledge and teaching skills of the faculty.

There are two undergraduate courses in VITSOL - BA, LL. B. (Hons.) and BBA, LL. B. (Hons). LL M. is offered in three branches of law. The doctoral program is also offered.

Admission procedure for BA, LL. B. and BBA, LL. B. 
1. Candidates need to apply online after meeting the eligibility criteria.
2. Send the hard copy of the application to the relevant campus address.
3. Based on the qualifying marks, candidates are shortlisted.
4. Selected students can take admission.
Admission procedure for L.L.M.
1. Apply online
2. Appear for the All India Entrance Examination Examination or DU - LLM / PG CLAT / AILET LLM (NLU Delhi).
3. Students are shortlisted based on their scores in the qualifying entrance examination.
4. Selected students can take admission.
Admission procedure for Ph. D.
1. Apply online.
2. Candidates need to appear for VITREE ( VIT Research Entrance Examination).
3. Selected candidates need to appear for a personal interview round.
4. Final selection list is declared based on academic excellence in the master's degree, written examination test, and personal interview at VIT.


The VIT School of Law, Chennai is ranked 7th among all the law colleges of India by IIRF  (Indian Institutional Ranking Framework 2022) center for institutional ranking.

Placements Highlights

The placement and training center plays an important part in the placement of the students. They take full care of the training and grooming of the students so that they can be absorbed in good places, both in the national and international arena. The students of VITSOL work as interns in reputed law firms, law chambers, corporate offices, and governmental and non-governmental organizations. Each student must complete a minimum of 5 internships. This allows them to interact with the working professionals from the industry. They are also required to attend seminars and workshops to make them fully prepared for the job after college. Amongst the first batch of students around 10 have got admitted to reputed foreign universities for higher studies, 30% of the students have joined as associates in legal firms,  

Research & Development

VITSOL gives a lot of importance to research. It has come up with the Center for Research on Intellectual Property Laws and the Center for Public Law Research. Through these centers, the institute organizes seminars, workshops, etc. to give the students a deeper insight into the fields of law, wider vision, contemporary issues, and a searching mind. Academic research papers are published by the institute.
