Overview

Established in the year 1941, the School of Planning and Architecture is one of the most prestigious colleges in the country to date. This educational hub was established as a department of architecture of Delhi Polytechnic and has currently become one of the best institutes in India. The institute offers many undergraduate, postgraduate as well as doctorate courses. It gained special recognition from the government of India in the year 1979 because of its specialized courses. It is one of the primary institutional hubs of our country and has been recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. The institute has a variety of departments that undertake research every year as well as consultancy assignments. It has some of the best faculty in the country and the facilities it provides are unmatched and it strives to provide its students with the best academic materials and a healthy environment to pursue personal growth and success.

Courses Offered

The courses that SPA offers are over Architecture and planning streams. There are undergraduate, postgraduate as well as doctorate courses.

Admission Process

Admission in SPA is a merit and entrance exam based therefore the candidate has to give the required exam prior to applying for the college. The admission processes are different for UG, PG as well as PhD courses.

For UG Admission

● The application is offline. The seats are allotted by JoSaa counseling and all the selected candidates can only apply.

● The selected candidates can apply through an application that is available at the school centre.

● Submit the application along with the application fee to the school's centre.

For PG Admission

● The mode of application online. Candidates are required to fill out the application on the official website along with uploading supporting documents.

● Candidates also have to pay an application fee online.

● After submission, if the candidate is selected further, they will be informed through SMS.

For Ph.D

● Application mode if offline. The application is to be downloaded by the official website and filled out.

● The application has to be submitted with the fee by demand draft in favor of SPA.

Result and Cut off

All the courses offered in SPA are merit-based. The admission is based on the performance of the candidate in the required entrance exam that they have appeared prior to taking admission. The UG course seats are allotted to candidates according to their score in JEE Main as well as CEED, further, the selected candidates are called for interview. For PG courses they are also based on certain entrance exams along with their qualifying score prior to the course as well as after selection there are other rounds of testing in SPA. The candidates who apply for doctorate programs are based on their master's degree in the relevant field of study which should at least have 55% of the minimum aggregate.

Placements

There is a specialized placement cell that has been formalized in the college however it has not been very effective in providing people with good placement opportunities. Some of the firms that might be at placements at PDA are DDA, Hudco, Teri, NIUA, IIHS etc. There are also many students who prefer their own individual startups and other endeavors, therefore, are not a part of the placement. Roughly 70% of the students get placed every year while others pursue further studies or start their own startups etc. The placements aren't at par however many of them who do get placed have great opportunities. The lowest packages can range from 3 LPA to 6 LPA while the highest packages can range from 10 LPA to 18 LPA.

Campus Facilities 

There are many facilities that the campus of SPA offers to its students. There are mainly two libraries in the college that cater to all the informational needs of the students in the streams they pursue in the college. There are hostel facilities for both boys as well as girls however the rooms can be limited. There are sports complexes like Basketball courts for extracurricular activities. There are also facilities like computer labs. The college also has an auditorium for different activities. There is a lack of extracurricular activities in the college. However, it does have many other facilities such as the library that the students can spend their time.

Alumni Network

The SPA has brought forward some of the best architecture of our country. The alumni network is quite strong as students prefer visiting campus years after graduating and reminiscing on past memories. Some of the notable alumni of the college are.
