Overview

Initiated the journey since 1947, by its parent organization “Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)”, Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, Uttarakhand is one of the inaugural institutions focused on providing the service in multiple fields including architecture.

CSIR-CBRI puts forward exclusive educational research including well-experienced faculties and magnificent infrastructural solutions to nearly all extents of designing and development of building along with building stuff, and emergency management.

Courses Offered

Being one of the renowned organizations in the country, CBRI offers an integrated program to the students. The focus area lies on green and energy-efficient buildings that consume a sustainable amount of energy and offer environmental protection. From site planning, water and waste management, quality of indoor ambiance, building envelope design to cost-effective and affordable housing, solar applications in buildings, usage of non-toxic materials, and others are the salient features of the green buildings that the college considers. 

The college's rural buildings & environment research has included rural housing studies, the development of appropriate construction technologies, the renovation of traditional houses, low-cost houses and other structures, and rural sanitation. It also focuses on new construction techniques and building systems that would be valuable in the coming years. The major objective of the college is to cover all the architectural aspects so that the candidates can transform themselves into real professionals and face every challenge effortlessly in the real world.

Course Highlights

● The Integrated Program is arranged in such a way that after successful completion of the program, the candidate will acquire the degrees. 

● Admitting housing is one of the pillars for the development of the country, they designed a very unique and excellent course for the expertise of their students. Along with the theoretical knowledge they are offering practical site experience and giving the opportunity to work with experienced architects in their prime workshops. 

● Students at CBRI are trained and taught by highly qualified and experienced faculty members from India and abroad. It has 15+ faculty members of various specializations who encourage and help drive every student towards their goals.

● For providing its students with national and international exposure and expertise, CBRI has 2 US Patents and 109 Indian Patents to its name and 9 patents are under-process. 

It has signed MoU with major centers in India for knowledge sharing purposes.

● Besides the training of the students, the institute encourages them to enhance job-oriented skills for entrepreneurship with the help of the maximum capabilities of the institute.

Admission Process

The Architecture and Planning Division is responsible for research and development in the fields of architecture, urban and rural planning, and cost-effective and accessible housing. The division's current target areas are Energy Efficient and Green Buildings, as well as Industrialized Building Systems. Shelter Planning, Education and Health Care Buildings, and Rural Buildings & Environment are some of the division's major sub-areas.

There are two types of admission procedures. For admission to the architectural program, it is completely according to the merit list. And the candidate who has scored a valid rank in GATE or valid CSIR-SRF will get the chance for admission in Ph. CBRI has provided remarkably great campus placement facilities compared to any other private college. Many big-budget corporations like TCS, INFOSYS, big brands like HUL, P&G, ERNST & YOUNG, AB INBEV, etc. participate every year in the recruitment process. The opportunity of the internships is also offered by CBRI. Besides, many companies visited frequently to examine the skills and knowledge of candidates by interview aptitude tests. The average package received by the students is almost around 8-10LPA. Moreover, Ph. D candidates are offered a higher package based on their expertise. 

Campus Facilities

CBRI provides the campus facilities along with experienced faculty members. From providing high-speed internet and unique video conferencing facilities, this institution gives access to the library with a wide variety of books and national journals. It is also called the Knowledge Resources Centre. 

Along with focusing on enhancing the IQ level of a student, they also have Student Training and Mentoring (STM) groups that are aimed at growing the students as an independent and skilled entrepreneur. However, they also have other facilities like providing hostels with separate accommodation for boys and girls, recreational activities like sports clubs and outdoor games for both boys and girls, etc.
