Overview
Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER), was founded by Sri Ramachandra Education & Health Trust on September 11, 1985 by N. P. V. Ramasamy Udayar. It was founded as a medical college initialy situated in Porur, Chennai. Today, SRIHER consists of nine constituent colleges and faculties with more than 6000 students. But ever since its inception, the institute grew to the status of a "Deemed to be University" in September, 1994 under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

"To offer diverse educational programmes that facilitate the development of competent professionals and valuable citizens, who demonstrate excellence in the respective disciplines, while being locally and globally responsive in areas of education, healthcare delivery and research".
Academic Excellence
The institute offers the four and a half year M.B.B.S. course with a one-year compulsory rotating internship. There are 250 seats that are filled through the NEET UG exam. The university also offers postgraduate courses in almost all subjects including surgery, medicine, gynecology, etc. Similarly, it offers a variety of Doctoral courses including MCh Neurosurgery, Surgical oncology Cardiac Surgery among others and DM in Cardiology, Neurology etc.

In the prestigious and widely acclaimed educational ranking of Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF- 2020), Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute at 64 Rank in IIRF Deemed University Ranking 2020.
