Assam University Fees

The academic fees for students of Assam University have multiple components e.g. tuition fees, examination charges, registration fees, and caution deposits. The fee structure for different courses is as follows:

  • One Time Fees:
    • Admission Fees: INR 1,000 for most UG and PG courses.
    • Identity Card Fees: INR 100.
    • Placement Brochure Fee: INR 500 (for certain programs only e.g. MSc in Biotechnology).
  • Recurring Fees:
    • Course Fees: Vary according to the program. Assam University Admissions

The eligibility criteria for admission to Assam University, are as follows:

  • UG programs:
    • Students must hold a valid Standard XII Examination Pass Certificate from any recognized Board of Higher Secondary Education in India or abroad. Students in the final year of their 10+2 studies are also allowed to apply.
    • For most programs, a pass grade is sufficient; there is no minimum 10+2 percentage specified as the cut-off.
    • UG aspirants must submit a valid CUET UG score from the same year as the date of application.
  • PG programs:
    • Applicants must have completed (or be in the final year of) a Bachelor’s degree (recognized by AICTE or AIU) in a field of study related to that of the Master’s degree in which they are interested. The full list of matching subjects can be found in the Assam University prospectus.
    • There is no cut-off mandated based on the UG aggregate over all the semester-end examinations for most PG programs. However, some courses (e.g. MCom) specify cut-offs of 50% in the UG degree, or 45% in the Honors degree. There is a relaxation of 5% for reserved category applicants.
    • All applicants to PG courses must have a valid CUET PG score.
  • Diploma and Certificate courses admit students who have completed their high school studies in any discipline.
  • PhD programs only admit students who have successfully completed a Master’s degree in a related discipline with a minimum aggregate of 55% over all semesters of postgraduate study.

Students who wish to apply to Assam University must follow these steps:

  • Going through the UG and PG prospectus carefully and checking the eligibility criteria for the course(s) in which the student is interested.
  • Registering on the AUS Admission Website with personal and contact details.
  • Reading the instructions related to filling the online application form.
  • Creating a New Applicant Account and noting the Application Number; this will be used for all further communication.
  • Creating scans and uploading self-attested copies of:
    • A recent passport sized photograph (between 150 KB and 300 KB in size).

Assam University Cut-Offs

Unlike many other Central Universities, AU Silchar does not mandate qualifying examination cut-offs for admission to most of its UG and PG courses (with a few exceptions e.g. 50% UG aggregate for MCom applicants). However, PhD candidates usually require 55% in their Master’s degrees. All programs use CUET scores to admit students; however, there are no cut-offs announced based on the CUET UG or PG scores before the seat allocation process starts. The final cut-offs are determined at the end of the process, based on the CUET score of the last candidate admitted.

Assam University Faculty & Alumni

Assam University is home to 409 full time Faculty members. Of these, 222 (54%) are Assistant Professors, 85 (21%) are Associate Professors, and the remaining 102 (25%) are full Professors. Most Faculty members (384 out of 409, or 94%) hold PhD degrees. 379 Faculty members are regular employees, while the remaining 30 are employed on contract. 1. Government of India Post Matric Scholarships: These are for SC and ST students whose family income is below the annually specified threshold, and cover all education costs except tuition fees, and provide a stipend for living costs. Applicants must submit verified caste and household income certificates.

2. ONGC Scholarship for SC and ST students: These academic merit scholarships provide amounts of INR 48,000 per year, and SC/ST students pursuing courses in Engineering, Medicine, Geology, Geophysics, and Business Administration are free to apply. Only 500 students are given the award across India.

3. Government of Assam Post Matric Scholarship for ST students: Students from tribal communities whose family income does not exceed INR 2 LPA are allowed to apply, and the scholarship entails full refund of all college fees in addition to a monthly maintenance fee that covers living costs.

4. Government of Assam Post Matric Scholarship for SC, MOBC and OBC students: This is for students from the respective categories whose family income does not exceed specified limits e.g. INR 1 LPA for OBC applicants. In addition to tuition fee reimbursement, awardees are given a monthly maintenance amount up to INR 750.

Currently, 479 out of 4,144 students (12%) receive full tuition fee waivers from the Central and Assam State Governments, 286 students (7%) receive full scholarships via University funds, and 9 receive full tuition fee scholarships from private bodies and Trusts.
