Overview

CU, or, Chandigarh University is one of the private universities in the country. It is situated in the village Gharuan, on the NH-95 Chandigarh-Ludhiana Highway in Mohali in the state of Punjab in India. It is at a distance of twenty-five kilometers from Chandigarh. The University was built in the year 2012 by the State Legislature of Punjab. It has got recognition from UGC, the University Grants Commission under “section 2(F) with the right to confer degrees as per Section 22(1) of the UGC Act, 1956”. The Chancellor of the university is Satnam Singh Sandhu.

Academic Performance

The various courses offered by the University are undergraduate, post-graduate, and doctorate courses. These courses are offered in different subjects that include basic sciences, commerce, liberal arts, media studies, agricultural sciences, legal studies, architecture, biotechnology, pharma sciences, tourism, multi-media, animation, education, cognitive sciences, computing, management, and engineering. The academia of Chandigarh University goes around the FCBCS or Flexible Choice Based Credit System. The FCBCS lets the students choose out of electives in their own subject, related discipline, and open electives. It also allows the students to transfer credits across semester programs abroad.

Chandigarh University was ranked 84 in the engineering category and 51 in the management category by NIRF, the National Institutional Ranking Framework, as per the rankings that got released in 2020 June. The courses offered by the university are recognized by AlCTE – All India Council for Technical Education, BCI – Bar Council of India, NCHMCT – National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology, PCI – Pharmacy Council of India, NCTE – National Council for Teacher Education, and COA – Council of Architecture. Chandigarh University has got an “A+” accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, or, NAAC.

Research

Chandigarh University is committed to making the world a better place to live in. It is involved in experimentation and grants the under-graduate students to involve themselves in research. This offers the students hands-on experience with research at a very early stage in their careers. The faculty along with the students are involved in interesting projects. The thrust areas in which research is carried out are wireless and broadband communication, micro-nano technology, intelligent systems, computational biology. Clean energy and environment, biomedical engineering, and advanced materials.

Placements

Chandigarh University is judged as the “university with best placements” and has become a leader without dispute in its region. There has been a 60% surge in the corporates visiting the university to hire their students. And, this surge is a testimony to the performance of the alumni in their respective fields. Chandigarh University holds the “Limca Book of Records” for the highest number of corporates visiting in one academic year. And, it’s the first in the country to have that record.

The university is focused on interdisciplinary training of its students, which is multidimensional in nature and goes in-line with the expectations from the industries and the labs sponsored by the industries for hands-on learning. A sharp increase in the placement offers and record-breaking salary packages are owed to the training provided by the university to its students.
