Barkatullah University

Barkatullah University is a public university named after Prof. Barkatullah. It was earlier known as the University of Bhopal. It offers a degree to non-technical colleges in and around Bhopal. It was established in the year 1970. In 1974 they opened distant education and other open courses. The campus of Barkatullah university is spread across 360 acres of land. It is a residential type campus that accommodates its staff and students. The university has facilities such as the Health Center, the Computer Centre, a Library, Sports and Games fields, a Gymnasium, a Cultural Hall & Auditorium, etc. Banking and Post Office facilities are also available on the campus. The focus of the University teaching departments is on research and interdisciplinary teaching. There are active NSS and DSW on the campus. The university has a central library with a collection of nearly 75000 books, 5703 theses, 3000 research magazines, and 60 Sanskrit MSS.

The Barkatullah University campus encompasses the University Institute of Technology Block, an Administrative Block, a Library Block, a Law Block, a Life Science Block, a Humanities Block, a Microbiology Building, a Social Science Block, a Physics Block, an Applied Aquaculture block, an Applied Geology Building, a C. R. Institute of Management Block, a Department of Pharmacy Block and an Institute of Open and Distance Education Block. The University offers all varieties of higher education courses and the University Teaching Departments are in the faculties of Science, Social Science, Arts, Life Science, Home Science, Commerce, Medicine, Management, Education, Law, Engineering, Physical Education and Technical Education. The Chakravorty Rajgopalachari Institute of Management offers courses in different streams of Management. IODE or the Institute of Open and Distance Education offers under-graduate, post-graduate, and diploma courses through correspondence. The university aims at having holistic development of the students and so, it encourages all extra-curricular activities.

In order to encourage technology and product-oriented research, the university has formed a ‘Patent Cell’. The primary objective of the cell is to ease the online submission of patents to the Indian Patent Office. The cell provides strategic information regarding patentable research and the submission process.

The institute allows students to take active participation in the placement drive that is conducted by the university every year. Many small and big companies visit this institute every year to hire candidates. Students get from 20,000 INR to 1,00,000 INR per month after they get placed in any of the reputed companies across the country. Most of the time, the college grooms the students to sit in the placement drive by improving their personality and skillsets. Some companies like Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Infosys, and the likes provide more than 3.5 lacs per annum on an average.

The university has been functioning since 1970 and the number of students who have passed out is uncountable. A college or university is known through the notable alumni from campus.
