Overview

The School of Planning and Architecture Bhopal is one of the top-ranking higher education institutes in Bhopal. The institution offers to specialize in education and research in the field of Urban Planning, Architecture, and Design. It is established by the Ministry of Human Resources Development in 2008 as an autonomous institute. SPA is a complete CFTI or Centrally Funded Technical Institution. It is one of the premier institutes of MHRD India along with the IITs, NITs and AIIMS. The institute is spread over a 75-acre land and is located in Bhauri, Bhopal. SPA Bhopal led in the Teaching-Learning category and ranked fifth across India, by the Rankings conducted by National Institutional Ranking Framework, Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2018, among Architecture Institutions in India. To present talented students in the field of contemporary architecture is their main goal.

Academic Performance

The institution is affiliated with MHRD. SPA offers various courses from graduation to doctoral degrees. The admission to the institution is completely based on merit. The students are admitted to the college through JEE MAIN. With talented students and highly qualified faculty, the result put forth by the college is excellent. The institution provides enough opportunity for students to establish themselves in the field of architecture. Placement cell is also very active on the campus which helps the students to ensure a secure future.

Research Program

The research project focus to develop this center as a nodal center to circulate technological know-how in the planning profession and maintain a digital data bank with state-of-art technology. Feasible design solutions through research and enquiry form the basis of the education system of the research school. A new dimension in research in the field of architecture is discussed through their own journal SPANDREL. The research and final conclusion aim to find a solution to architecture and planning.


Notable Alumni

VibhoreBakshi who received his bachelor’s degree in Bachelor of Planning in 2014 from SPA Bhopal, works as an Assistant Professor and serves as the Alumni Secretary at School of Planning and Architecture Bhopal. Reetika Patel, an User Experience Designer who is behind http://funsulin.com/ raising awareness about Type 1 Diabetes through her creativity, having lived with the condition for more than 15 years now is an alumnus of SPA-Bhopal. Ankita Gupta who studied Urban and Regional Planning at the School of Planning and Architecture Bhopal went to study at UNESCO-IHE. Atul Lalsare, a SPA Bhopal Class of 2012 Masters of Architecture student went on to work at ADA. Pulkit Sehgal is one of the proud patrons of SPA Bhopal.

The Bhopal campus of School of Planning and Architecture being comparatively younger than the other campuses in the country doesn’t have alumni as old and famous as the other campuses. Some of the SPA alumni from the other campuses are:

Arundhati Roy, who dropped out of the Delhi campus after 4 years of studies, pursued a career in writing. Baburam Bhattarai, the 36th Primer Minister of Nepal studied at SPA. Eugene Pandala, the Indian architect best known for the incorporation of environmental sustainability in his buildings, is a SPA alumnus. Gerard da Cunha, the architect famous for Nrityagram went to SPA. The pioneer of mud architecture in the country, Revathi Kamath also is an alumnus of the Delhi campus.
