Overview

Indian Institute of Forest Management – IIFM is a national level institute that conducts education, training, research, and consultancy. It was inaugurated in the year 1982 as an autonomous public Institute. It was set up by the Government of India Forest and Climate Change Department and the Ministry of Environment with financial assistance from the SIDA, and of course with assistance from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. The objective of the Institute is to fulfill the growing need for controlling human resource in the area of Environment, Forest and Natural Resources Management, and allied sectors. This institute is headed by the person who is chosen and appointed as the Director by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. The campus is famous for the numerous varieties of flora and fauna it encompasses. There have been several sightings of different wild animals and birds on the institute’s campus. It is spread across 217 acres with beautiful scenery. The institution has a Central Library, Sports Field, and other modern infrastructure that ensure all the curricular and co-curricular activities’ proper functioning.

Academics

The perfect mix of highly qualified faculty and up-to-date course content guarantee that IIFM graduates are farsighted to face any challenge posed by today’s business, environmental, development, and conservation scenarios. The permanent faculty-student ratio is impressive at 1:5, with thirty-five permanent faculty members catering to 9 expert areas. IIFM believes in the importance of giving its students practical exposure equal to indispensable academic inputs to ensure their holistic development. The right kind of exposure is provided to the students by means of Summer Internships, Field visits, Industry visits, Guest lectures, and Live projects.

Research Program

Research is one of the main focuses of IIFM. IIFM constantly attempts to develop boundaries of knowledge in various areas of forest and natural resource management. Research activities at IIFM are focused to find befitting tools, techniques, and applications of management concepts that help to assist a forest manager in achieving productivity and efficiency in forestry operations. Most of the research projects undertaken by the faculty at IIFM are applicable in nature. Findings from the research projects are used for developing case studies and teaching material on various aspects of forest management. Many national and international organizations aid and support research projects at IIFM.

Placement Highlights

The placements offered by this institute are mostly with the prominent NGOs that work for the environment or development sector. In recent years, many banks and microfinance institutions are visiting the campus to hire candidates. Students are placed across various companies that deal with the environment, healthcare, safety, consultancies, and other related sectors with a package of 6.93 Lakhs per annum on an average. Also, students who joined in the previous years are getting an increment of more than 2 percent when compared to the earlier years. Besides this, this institute provides its students with many excursions, training, tips, workshops, and internships in reputed organizations and institutions.
