Overview

AMPRI or Advanced Material Processes Research Institute came into existence in the year of 1981 as RRL (Regional Research Laboratory). It started its operation from New Delhi and was later shifted to the city of Bhopal. In the year 1983, it was placed in a new location that was originally constructed to facilitate Cooperative Training College. The lab started its operation with just 15 scientists out of which 10 scientists specialized in metallurgy or materials science. It is a research institute of CSIR. CSIR has about 4600 active scientists supported by about 8000 scientific and technical personnel and covers a wide range of Science and Technology. Among 4851 institutions worldwide, the institute is ranked at 84th and is the only Indian organization in the top 100 global institutions, according to a Ranking World Report of 2014. The Institute secures the 17th rank in Asia and the first position in the country.

Academic Performance

AMPRI provides a wide variety of courses ranging from radio and space physics, chemicals, drugs, genomics, oceanography, geophysics, biotechnology, and nanotechnology to instrumentation, mining, environmental engineering, aeronautics, and information technology. It also provides significant technological information in many areas regarding societal efforts that include the environment, housing, health, drinking water, energy, food, farm, and non-farm sectors. The institute aims at promoting professional HRM in the institute by evolving a holistic human resource development plan under the CSIR system. It helps the Institute to operate a number of activities relating to training and capacity build-up of its members, maintaining a database of the existing human resource, and interacting & coordinating with human resource development through CSIR. The courses offered by the institute are Bio-Tech, Chemical Engineering, Petro-Chemical Technology, BRPL, B. Pharma, and Pharmacy.

Research & Development

The institute has published 5549 research papers in just one year. It has also filed and granted a few patents both nationally and at international levels. The institute has a notable research work in Light-weight Metallic Materials, Smart and Functional Materials, Integrated Approach for Design and Product Development, Radiation Shielding and Cement-free Concrete, Advanced Construction Materials, and Water Resources Management and Rural Technologies. Planning & Performance Division works as a focal point for monitoring and evaluation of the scientific projects and programs of the institute. The workstations are capable of providing technical support in all terms of preparing test specimens and providing all the help needed to conduct experiments in general. The laboratories in the institute are well equipped with many facilities to carry out mechanical drilling, milling, and machining operations needed during the preparation of experimental specimens or jobs. From time to time, the institute also helps in general maintenance work.
