Overview

NIFT or National Institute of Fashion Technology was set up in the year 1986 with its first campus in New Delhi. It was set up by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and was declared as a statutory institute in 2006 by an Act passed by the Indian parliament. And since then NIFT has been allowed to grant their own degrees under the NIFT Act. After its huge success at the campus at New Delhi, NIFT went on to open its next campuses at Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Gandhinagar in the year 1995 and two years later in 1997 at Bengaluru. Since 1986, NIFT has been able to open campuses all over the country with a total of 16 campuses spread across the nation. Since its inception, NIFT has also been a beacon of knowledge in the area of development of design, and handlooms and handicraft positioning for both at a national level and a state level. The NIFT, Bhubaneswar campus was established in the year 2010. It was initially set up at a temporary campus near Jatni, Odisha but then the institution shifted to its permanent campus in the year 2012. The NIFT, Bhubaneswar campus was set up using the help and support of the Government of Odisha with a financial aid of Rs. 58.6 crores.

NIFT Bhubaneswar offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in the design stream to people who aspire to take part in these fields. The university also offers 20% seat reservation for candidates who are domicile of Odisha.

The NIFT is a premier institution of design and management of fashion technology and its aim is to establish a benchmark for all the scholars and candidates who aspire to go into the industry of fashion. NIFT Bhubaneswar offers Master of Fashion Management (MFM) course under its Post-graduation courses. It also extends Continuing Education (CE) Programmes under Fashion Retail Management (FRM) and Fashion and Clothing Technology (FCT).

Placement Highlights

For institutions such as this, providing placement opportunities to their students is a big part of their curriculum. Every year, a vast number of companies arrive at all the 16 institute campus of NIFT and conduct interviews of the candidates in their final semester. Companies such as Arvind Lifestyle Brands Limited, Ashoka Exports, Bata India Ltd., Bhartiya International Fashion, BlackBerry Clothing, Decathlon, Disha, Dixcy Textile Pvt. Ltd., Donear Industries, and various other are usually part of the placement process.

Notable Alumni

Sabyasachi Mukherjee is an extremely acclaimed fashion designer who has influenced an entire genre of fashion with his exquisite work in classical traditional Indian wear. He also designs jewellery and is a retailer and couturier. He is also one of the youngest board member of the National Museum of Indian Cinema.
