Institute of Mathematics and Applications (IMA) was established in the year 1999 by the Government of Odisha under the Science and Technology Department with a wide range of aims and objectives which created the statute of the institute. The institution was finally registered under the Registration of Societies Act 1860 in the month of March 2000, bearing registration number 20851/187 of 1999-2000. In the beginning, the institute started functioning in a room allotted in PathaniSamanta Planetarium, situated in Bhubaneswar and after a while, the office was shifted to another temporary location until finally, in 2008, a new campus of the institute was inaugurated by the Hon. Chief Minister of the state Shri. Naveen Patnaik at Andharua Mauza. Since the start of its establishment, consistent with its aims and objectives, IMA has been actively nurturing and developing talented mathematicians and been providing their scholars and students with the best of facilities and competitions to help them be better on a daily basis. From organizing various mathematical Olympiads and training camps and interactive exercises to help the students be their best versions and be successful. IMA, over the years, has also ventured into exploring subjects such as wetland management, heat waves, cyclones, etc. and while also keeping their hands full with the traditional ways and disciplines of mathematics. Due to its growing nature and the results it provided, the state government has leased land as wide as 20 acres on which campus is being constructed by TATA Steel Ltd. The institutions’ primary aim is to strive for excellence and create the best culture of competence in mathematics at all levels of society.

IMA has shown great academic performances over the years and has produced even greater scholars. Through their courses in B. Sc. and M. Sc., the candidates who choose to take admission in the institution are instilled with knowledge, which is provided by well versed and accomplished professors and faculty members.

The courses which are offered at IMA are as follows:

The B. Sc. (Hons) Degree in Mathematics and Computing is of 3 years and the first year fee is Rs. 35000, the eligibility is for a candidate to have passed their 10+2 (or equivalent) from a recognized board with Mathematics as a core subject.

The M. A / M. Sc. degree is spread across the timespan of 2 years and is available for two streams, a) Computer Finance, and b) Mathematics and Data Science. The first-year fees is Rs.1.25 Lakhs.

The scope of work in mathematical computation in today’s world is huge. Starting from stock markets to data science to such applied fields, candidates are sought by corporate sector players as well as the Government sector alike. Placement and openings for work in the field are gigantic. The school keeps the students updated with different openings for jobs with a significant number of packages. They likewise encourage the students to prepare for the screening tests.
