Overview

With a vision of being internationally recognised for producing exceptional graduates, the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar came into existence on 22 July 2008, inheriting the brand name IIT. Ranked 17th in the Engineering category by NIRF Ranking 2019, It is one of the premier engineering colleges in India. Situated in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, the institute currently houses 1363 students across all the UG and PG courses. The institute claims of a highly qualified faculty team with each member having a Ph.D. in their respective fields.


Academic Performance

The Institute strives to offer the best engineering education to its students with unmatched novelties in the curriculum.IITBBS is seen to be becoming one of the elite technology institutes of India within a short span of time, spurred by sustained creation of knowledge, innovation, and an undeterred commitment towards holistic education.  The Institute aims to develop creativity and cognitive thinking among students through industrious partnerships with different industries and exposing them to a wide variety of activities through societies and clubs.

The various academic programmes offered by the Institute include B. Tech in Computer Science, Civil, Electrical, ECE and Mechanical Engineering with an intake capacity of around 50 students each at the undergraduate level. The institute has started Dual degree courses in Mechanical and Civil Engineering with an intake of 10 students from the academic year 2016–17. The Institute has also started the Doctoral programme from the academic session 2009-2010.

The Institute has adopted the syllabus, curriculum and essential academic regulations from IIT Kharagpur, its mentor institute.

Research & Development

Since its inception, IIT Bhubaneswar is seen developing a robust R&D portfolio to be globally competitive. The Institute has a unique approach of adopting the concept of schools rather than departments for promoting inter-disciplinary research. Currently, the following schools are offering academic programmes;

The institute currently has more than 200 ongoing research projects and nearly 1 billion rupees in Fund inflow.

Behind these numbers lies the efforts of 100+ faculty members and their team of passionate research/project scholars to contribute to new scientific knowledge and deliver new technology towards national growth.

These research teams at IITBBS have been working in close alliance with many national and international academic and research institutes, funding organizations, and industries. The output of their endeavour is well presented in high impact publications, patents, and technology transfer. Most importantly, IITBBS has developed this ecosystem where teams are winning the trust of industries far and wide.

Placements

In the year 2020, a total of 87% of the undergraduate students received placement offers and continue to receive where the highest domestic CTC offered was 43.3 Lakhs per annum.

The average salary for UG placements is 15.8 Lakh per Annum which shows a sharp increase of 34% over the last year. The statistics this year show 51% of students getting jobs in their core engineering fields.

PSU’s like HPCL, IOCL, Oil India Limited came and participated in the campus placements. The institute saw the participation from MNC companies such as Honeywell, Goldman Sachs, GE India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys, TCS R & D, and Adobe. The 3rd year students have received internship offers in reputed industries and most of them are likely to receive permanent offers.
