Overview

National Post Graduate College, located in the city of Lucknow, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, was established in the year 1974. It is affiliated with the University of Lucknow and has been given autonomous status by the same. The motto of the college is maritumethicus, meaning merit with ethics, as they believe that talent and merit go hand in hand with ethics, and the same without ethics leaves a man with nothing less of a wild beast. The mission of the college is to develop students into individuals who can serve their organizations, society, and humanity dedicatedly. It aims to provide its students with an environment that helps bring out the best in them and develop their personality, giving scope to each student to acquire in-depth knowledge in their specialization.


Academic Performance

It was accredited ‘A’ by NAAC among the many universities and colleges in Lucknow. NPGC has been awarded the status of “College for Potential Excellence”. It is the study centre for two open universities: Indira Gandhi National Open University and Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University, where they hold remedial classes for the same. As of 2019, NPGC is ranked 38th college overall by The Week. The college received a special grant from UGC for the establishment of the DeenDayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra that focuses on skill development, offering one-year diploma programmes, graduate, and post-graduate programmes.

It offers courses in many divisions like Faculty of Computer Sciences, Faculty of Management Studies, and Faculty of Science. There are about 17 courses distributed amongst six streams. The courses it offers are the following. MA in Geography, Anthropology, and Psychology, B. Voc. in Banking & Finance, Software Development and E-Governance, B.B.A., B. Com., BCA, B. Sc., Post Graduate Diploma in Remote Sensing & GIS, and Retail Management, M. Voc. in Banking, Stocking & Insurance, and Software & E-Governance, M. Com., M. Sc. in Anthropology, Diploma (Advanced) in Analytical Techniques & Instrumental Analysis, Computer Application, Banking & Finance, Office Automation & E-Governance. NPGA also offers certain Certificate Courses in Computer Science, Psychological Counselling, Forensic Science, and Effective Communication (English).

Placement Highlights

It observes high academic competence within its students and hence, receives placement offerings from various multinational companies and other organizations. Some of these recruiters are Wipro, IBM, IGate, Tata Consultancy Services, South Indian Bank, HCL, Genpact, Apex Encon Projects, and Convergys. The college does not provide internships.


Notable Alumni

  • Dr. Sunil Pradhan, an alumnus of National PG College, is now a professor at the Department of Neurology in Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences. He is known for his contributions to the field of Neurology, especially the invention of two electrophysiological techniques and the Pradhan Sign, the medical sign for Duchenne muscular dystrophy among others.
  • J. K. Sharma, an alumnus of this college, is the head of the Institute of Management Sciences and has authored over 120 research papers, 40 books and case studies in the fields of Business Statistics, Operations Research, Logistics Management, and Business Mathematics among others. He is a recipient of Senior Research Fellowship from CSIR and Distinguished Fellow from EFMD.
