Overview

Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College(MGMMC) was established in the year 1948. It is one of the best known medical colleges in Indore. This medical college was formed by the residency surgeons who were accompanied by the Europeans and the native troops who were stationed here. Within a very short period of time, this institute started garnering popularity. A building was constructed for female patients exclusively by Dr. Impey.

Mission     

The two current missions of the institution are the Kayakalp and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. In addition to these, the mission is to increase more facilities for students by increasing the number of qualified faculties. Coming up with various other streams is one of the prime motives that the college is gearing up for.


Academic Performance   

It is one of the most prestigious and oldest institutions of the state which was converted into a medical college in July 1948. The first batch of this college comprised of 50 students. Currently, it has reached new heights in the intake of students. They admit 140 undergraduate MBBS students and 117 postgraduate students in the field of M.S., M.D., and Diploma. The admission process begins through a national level preliminary examination for both the graduate and postgraduate courses. The total strength of the staff in the college is 1500 approximately. The college comprises an enhanced facility for dentistry, a school of nursing, and a college of nursing. The college houses 930 beds and a fully equipped M.Y. Hospital building of seven storeys. The faculty strength of the college is 240 and the total number of resident doctors is 360. There are a number of courses offered which are anatomy, psychology, biochemistry, pharmacology, pathology, forensic science, microbiology, community medicine, general medicine, general surgery, anesthesiology, and many more. Research and Developments   

The college has created a big OPD block in recent times. New blood bank equipment has been procured. Seven demonstration rooms and seven practical halls were created for the various departments of the college. In this development process crores of rupees were invested by the college authorities. One has to explore the infrastructure to understand the number of facilities one could avail from this institution of immense repute.

The best thing about this college is that it places the candidates in the top medical institutions of the country. You could count on the names of some of the notable alumni and their success stories to inspire yourself to be a part of this great institution. Some of these names are:
  • Padma Shri Dr. Bhakti Yadav, the first female MBBS from Indore, completed her MBBS from MGMMC in 1952 and pursued her M.S. from the same college.
  • Anand Rai, an Indian Activist and ophthalmologist, popular for exposing the Vyapam scam, attended MGMMC-Indore from 2003 to 2007.
  • Padma Vibhushan awardee Dr. S.K. Mukherjeeis an alumnus of the prestigious institute.
  • Gaya Prasad Pal, the anatomist who won the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 1993, is a proud patron of the MGMMC Alumni.
