Overview

Founded by late Mr. G.D. Birla – a renowned industrialist, BITS Pilani, commenced in the early 1900s as a school, which later bloomed into a set of graduate schools, varying from the Humanistic discipline to Engineering until 1964 when all these graduating schools were combined into a one-of-a-kind Indian University of International standards. From 1964-1970, the University was expanded in agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. BITS, Pilani – Hyderabad, one of the renowned technical institutes were established under Sec. 3 of the UGC act by Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (Rajasthan) in the year 2008.

Academic Performance

Since its inception, BITS Pilani has always provided the topmost quality scholarly education in the fields of engineering, science, and commerce to the students who are admitted on a merit basis. BITS objective is to progress knowledge and enlighten students in the areas of Science & Technology. The Institute is devoted to develop and conserve knowledge. BITS is committed to equipping its students with knowledge that incorporate meticulous academic study. We try to incorporate in each associate of the BITS community the capability and devotion to work judiciously, innovatively, and efficiently for the advancement of humanity. The syllabus is regularly revised and updated to incorporate recent advancements in Technology and Industrial trends. Students are exposed to real-time implementation of classroom learning under a methodical engagement program. This institute offers degree programmes in Engineering, Sciences, Technology, Pharmacy, Management, and Humanities. The students are admitted to the different courses through an online exam called BITSAT which tests the new entrants on their ability in English & Logical Reasoning apart from Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry to analyze new entrants’ intelligence and proficiency. Since it happens to be a campus of BITS, Pilani, the BITS Hyderabad campus has the same curriculum, teaching methodologies, and educational practices as its parent campus. Here in Hyderabad campus, the syllabus, teaching mode, and educational methods are the same as the ones followed by BITS, Pilani. Hyderabad campus has 13 departments in the areas of pure science and applied science. These departments are well known for their exemplary faculty members, the syllabus, and the research work. The aim of the university is to promote the imaginativeness of students through active research work.

Notable Alumni

The Hyderabad campus being the youngest of the BITS campuses in India, we’ll see the alumni from the Hyderabad campus become prominent personalities in the times to come. For now, let’s learn about some of the eminent people who have studied from the other campuses.

Anant Maheshwari, the President of Microsoft India attended BITS from 1991 to 1996. Anil Goel, the CTO and Chief Product Officer at Oyo Rooms graduated in 1995. Sanjay Mehrotra, the co-founder of Sandisk started college at BITS and later transferred to the University of California, Berkeley. Baba Kalyani, the CEO co-founder of Bigbasket graduated in 1979. Sabeer Bhatia, founder of Hotmail(bought by Microsoft for $400 million), joined Caltech after two years at BITS-Pilani. CEO-MD of Axis Bank, Amitabh Chaudhry studied in BITS-Pilani from 1981 to 1985. Manu Sawhney, CEO of ICC, former CEO of ESPN Star Sports and director of Manchester United F.C. did his under-graduation from BITS in 1984-1988.
