Overview

Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, IIMB, features in the list of one of the leading graduate school of management in Asia. It is an “Institute of National Importance” under the IIM Act of 2007. IIMB’s logo carries a proclamation in Sanskrit, तेजस्विनावधीतमस्तु (tejasvinavadhitamastu), which translates to “let our study be enlightening”. Their vision stands to be a globally renowned institution encouraging excellence in management, entrepreneurship and innovation for business, society and the government. Its proximity to some of the leading corporates in the country, from IT to consumer product, being located in the country’s high technology capital gives the added advantage of unifying the practical experience with classroom knowledge.

Academic Performance

IIMB has around 1200 students across various programs granting degrees, 5000 odd annual Executive Education participants and 109 full-time faculty members. The various degree-granting programs consist of a Ph.D., Master of Management Studies in Public Policy, Master of Business Administration- two years full-time, one year full-time, and two years(weekend), and Master of Business Administration in Business Analytics- two years fulltime. It offers the NSR Pre-doc Fellowship, a Certificate Programme with the objective of increasing the social diversity of management academia in the country. It offers a spirited Student Exchange Program with many partner universities across Asia, Europe, Australia, North America and South America.

Research & Development

Along with the eleven disciplinary areas, IIMB has ten centers of excellence conducting research on intriguing questions faced by the different sectors of industry. They have a major collaboration with Goldman Sachs for women entrepreneurship, a key partnership with Susan Dell Foundation for incubation of non-profit ventures, and for scaling up new ventures they partner with NITI Aayog.

The commitment to make a deep social impact using technology-laced education is commendable. The coordinating institution for management education for Govt. of India’s online education platform SWAYAM, it’s also the first management school in the country to offer MOOCs through edX.

Notable Alumni

Padma Bhushan K Radhakrishnan, known for Chandrayaan-1 and Mangalyaan did his post-graduate studies in management from IIMB during 1974-1976. The first non-Italian to head the 3rd biggest confectionery in the world, Perfetti Van Melle, Sameer Suneja, completed his masters from IIMB in 1994. Padma Shri Nila Madhav Panda, widely known for his award-winning film ‘I am Kalam’, has studied entrepreneurship at IIMB. Karan Bajaj, the founder of WhiteHat Jr. which was sold to BYJU’S recently and the author of the bestseller “Keep off the Grass” happens to be an alumnus of IIMB. Raghavendra Rau, who holds Sir Evelyn de Rothschild Professorship of Finance at the Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge received an MBA from IIMB in 1989. Apurva Purohit, the President of Jagran Prakashan Ltd. who got featured in Fortune India’s Most Powerful Women in the Business list of 2018 and 2019 is an alumnus of IIMB. Co-Founder CEO of LenskartPeyush Bansal did his masters from IIMB. Indian politician and the National Spokesperson of the Samajwadi Party Ghanshyam Tiwari did an executive management program at IIMB in 2005. Benild Joseph, the Indian white-hat hacker and TEDx Speaker and cybersecurity researcher who has been featured in Roger Grimes book ‘Hacking the Hacker’ studied management from IIMB.
