Overview

VIT was founded in 1984 as a self-financing institution called the Vellore Engineering College and was established in order to provide quality higher education on par with international standards. It persistently adopts innovative methods to improve the quality of higher education on a consistent basis which always made a better result in the end. The campus has a diverse as well as a cosmopolitan atmosphere with students from all corners of the globe. Experienced and efficient teachers are strongly driven to nurture the students.


Academic Performance

VIT has introduced the Fully Flexible Credit System which is in fact a great innovation in the entire curriculum. Through FFCS a student has complete freedom on managing his course the way they wish to be. It accommodates the desires of the entire student community as a whole. With this system, a student can graph out their own timetable with the respective specific courses he/she intends to do in that particular semester along with timings of classes and choice of the professors.

Research & Development

VIT is one of the best not because of its academic excellence but also due to its strong approach towards research and development in innovative technologies. VIT offers full-time research programs in Engineering, Management, Science, Technology, Social Sciences, Humanities and law. The growth of research in the creative capacity has two main focuses- textile technology and fashion technology. While fashion Technology includes Body Measurements Standardization, Fabric Forecasting, Color Forecasting, Garment Comfort, E-Garment, Smart Garment, SAM for Garment and Line Balancing, Textile Technology includes Fabric Comfort, Smart Textiles, Phase Changing Material, Super Absorbent Fabric, Herbal Finished Garments and Special Finishes (Micro & Nano Encapsulations). Resurgence is a research platform service available at VIT. It auto-captures all publications of researchers of VIT from possible online sources and provides information on citations, SNIP, h-index, and impact factor as well as other research credentials such as patents, collaborations, research groups, books, editorials, projects, conferences and awards can be manually entered by the faculty members.

Placement Highlights

In 2018-19, the placement and training center has brought more than 600 companies on campus for placements. Over the years, many reputed companies such as Intel, Dell, GE, Texas Instruments, Tata Motors, Deloitte, Ebay, L&T, Dr. Reddy’s, Bosch, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, Schneider Electric, Honda, Ford, Global Analytics, TCS, DE Shaw & Co, Hitachi, HP, PayPal, Qualcomm, Ashok Leyland, Cognizant, Accenture, Wipro and Infosys have participated in hiring from VIT.​

Notable Alumni

Shubhangi Swaroop, the first female pilot of the Indian Navy holds a degree in Biotechnology from the Vellore Institute of Technology. Papias MalimbaMusafiri, the Rwandan researcher and politician was awarded his Doctor of Philosophy in management by VIT. Bindu Madhavi, the Indian model and film actress who works in South-Indian films completed her degree in Biotechnology from VIT in 2005. Dhyan Sreenivasan, the Indian actor, director and screenwriter who works in Malayalam films after dropping out from his engineering course at VIT, joined a visual communication course for his late-found wish to work in Cinema. Shivendu Ranjan a noted researcher in nano-medicine and nano-biotechnology started with B.Tech and finished with a Ph.D. at the Institute over 2009 to 2018.
