National Law University

National Law University, Delhi (NLUD) is one of the premium National Law University of the country. The university offers courses both at the undergraduate level as well as at the postgraduate levels. The university is one among the national law schools in the country that is having a five-year law degree model proposed and which is implemented by the Bar Council of India. The Chief Justice of India will be the university’s visitor as per the National Law University Act, 2007, at the same time the Chief Justice of the High Court of Delhi will be functioning as the university’s chancellor.

As mentioned the university offers a five-year undergraduate, B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) program with a seat allocation of seventy seats and ten additional seats for foreign nationals. A credit-based system is implied in the undergraduate program along with additional seminar courses for further learning according to the best interests of the students. Apart from that, the students are expected to submit a total of fifty research projects before their graduation.

NLUD does not go for the Common Law Admission Test as any other National Law Universities do. The admissions to the undergraduate (UG) B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) program are done through the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), the test which is conducted every year by the university itself.

The university also offers a one-year LL.M. program and the admission is acquired through written tests which again is conducted by the University itself and is followed by an interview. NLUD also offers a Postgraduate Diploma course in Judging and Court Management, Urban Environmental Management, and IPR and Patent Law along with Ph.D.

The university got a lot of frontline research centers that do frontline studies in various R&D projects. NLUD currently has a total of thirteen research centres such as Centre for Comparative Law, Centre for Corporate Law And Governance, Centre for Criminology and Victimology, Centre for Transnational Commercial Law, Centre for Banking and Financial Laws, Centre for Communication Governance, Policy and Governance, Centre for Social Inclusion And Minority Rights, Centre for Comparative Studies in Personal Laws, Project 39A, Centre for Environmental Law, Policy and Research (CELPR), Centre for Innovation, Centre for Constitutional Law, Intellectual Property and Competition (CIIPC) and Centre for Transparency and Accountability in Governance.

Dushyant Singh Chautala, the 6th Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana, co-founder and president of Jannayak Janata Party, has pursued Masters of Law from National Law University, Delhi. Saumya Sharma, Indian Administrative Services Officer, the 9th rank holder of UPSC CSE 2017, is an alumnus of the National Law University, Delhi. Anubhav Singh Bassi, the famous stand-up comedian has studied law from the National Law University Delhi.
