Overview

Industrial Training Institute, Delhi is one of the oldest as well as largest institutes in Delhi. It spread across 8 acres area, which is adjacent to India’s famous world Heritage Monument that is Humayun Tomb that is situated at Nizamuddin. Institute is having one three-story Hostel Block, three big Workshops, a three-story Training Building, Open Parks, one office block and Playgrounds.

The institute was started by the Government of India, Ministry of Rehabilitation as the ‘Vocational Training Center’ for the displaced persons in the year 1948.  Its name was later on changed to “Training – cum- Work Center” in the year of 1949. The center was transferred to the charge of the Directorate General of Employment & Training, Ministry of Labour& Employment on 22nd May 1958 & renamed as “Industrial Training Institute”. It has been under the Delhi Administration since 1st March 1961.

Academic Performance

Initially,  it was started as  “Training–cum-Work  Centre”  which was imparted the training of Book Binding, Suitcase and leather goods manufacturing, Carpentry, Plumber, Cutting & Tailoring, Bleaching & Calico Printing, Handweaving of fancy & furnishing fabric (Textile), Handicraft (Doll Making), and Printing Machine Operator activity etc. After some time Process Cameraman, Moulder, Lino- Operator, Mason, Hand Compositor- Proof Reading, Forger Heat treatment, Electroplater, Patternmaker, were introduced besides the other running trades to meet the rising demand for skilled workers in the Industries. Apprenticeship Training schemes were also introduced in the year 1964, and it was implemented in this institute to impart the Basic Training & Related Instructions to the Apprentices registered under the Apprenticeship Act-1961 for various Engineering & Non-Engineering Trades.

Since the year 2006, this institute is imparting training in 72 sections under 32 various trades, which imparting basic knowledge of Engineering and Non-Engineering courses under the Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS). One Year/ Two years of Trade Certificates under National Certificate of Vocational Training (NCVT)& State Certificate of Vocational Training (SCVT) has been awarded to the trainees after completion of training.

It is the first ISO 9001: 2008 Certified Industrial Training Institute in Delhi. Institute has also accommodated the reputed office of 3 Delhi NCC Battalions for running their NCC training activity.
