Overview

The Department of Management Studies of the University of Mumbai is called Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies or JBIMS. It takes its name after the famous industrialist and philanthropist, Jamnalal Bajaj.

Academic Performance

JBIMS offers full-time Masters in Management Studies program. Apart from that, the institute also offers a full-time course of Masters in Finance (M.Sc. Finance), Master in Human Resource Development Management (MHRDM), part-time courses and a doctoral Ph.D. program. Apart from that, regular academics, guest lectures are organized from time to time.

JBIMS offers a 2-year full-time Master’s degree program, MHRD, i.e., Masters in Human Resource Development. A major focus of the program includes compensation Administration, Talent Attraction, Welfare and Industrial Relations and Labor laws, Human Resource Management, Learning and Development. Performance Management.

The Student Academic Committee of JBIMS is responsible for all the related academic activities of the college. The committee acts as the single point of contact between the institute’s management, the students and the faculty. It also coordinates with other committees as well as the clubs of the college to ensure that there is no overlapping between various events and academic activities.

Research & Development

International Research Conference is the flagship convention of JBIMS. IRC, the brainchild of Dr. Kavita Laghate, Director of JBIMS and Dr. Stephen D’silva, Former Director of JBIMS, was started in the year 2012 with the ultimate aim of leaving a strong and impeccable mark in the field of business and management research. The conference is held every year and provides a wonderful opportunity for university professors, policymakers, consultants, researchers, management gurus, and management students across the globe.

Placement Highlights

The placement committee has an instrumental job in helping students make their dreams of getting good placements to come true. It goes about as a facilitator for all business related to recruitments on campus and for networking and growing associations with the corporate world. Over the duration of time, the committee has effectively led the summer and the final placement offers at JBIMS. A considerable lot of the faculty members that the committee collaborates with are stalwarts in their respective fields. The committee’s objective is to provide each student with the right amount of exposure to make them ready for the industry.

Ajay Piramal, the chairman of the Piramal Conglomerate, a billionaire industrialist, obtained his master’s in management studies from JBIMS. Vinita Bali, formerly CEO and MD of Britannia Industries Ltd. earned an MBA from JBIMS. Uday Kotak, the MD and executive vice-chairman of Kotak Mahindra Bank, the billionaire banker has gained a postgraduate degree in management studies from JBIMS in 1982. Padma Shri Mani Ratnam, the winner of 6 National Awards, has an M.B.A. in finance from JBIMS from the year 1977. Siddharth Roy Kapur, former MD, Walt Disney Company India, currently Founder-MD of Roy Kapur Films and the President of the Producers Guild of India, has studied masters in management studies from JBIMS. Nitin Nohria, the 10th Dean of Harvard Business School did his MBA from JBIMS. Harish Manwani, former Global COO of Unilever, a director at the likes of Tata Sons, Whirlpool and Qualcomm, and the Senior Operating Partner at Blackstone, obtained a Master’s Degree in Management Studies from JBIMS. Nitin Paranjpe, COO of Unilever, has an MBA in marketing from JBIMS. Lalita D. Gupte, an important personality in the banking and financial services sector of India, who was Fortune’s one of the most powerful women in International Business, was recruited directly by ICICI from JBIMS.
