The Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College (GSMC) and King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital are amongst the top quality medical education providing hubs in India. The medical college offers training to 2000 UG, PG,  and super-specialty medical courses in UG, Occupational therapy, and postgraduate physical: also provides Masters and Ph.D. courses in allied super specialties. The institute also maintained a nursing school for the nursing aspirants. The medical college is leading with 390 staff physicians, 1800 beds for treating patients, 550 resident doctors, and 85,000 in-patients annually. The hospital offers basic care and advanced therapies to patients in the field of medicine and surgery.

The institute was founded by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai and is known for doing efforts for social cause1 Mostly it offers virtually free of cost treatment to under-privileged sections of the society. And, works for the betterment of society. The KEM hospital is designed with the motive to be the center of excellence for rare diseases in India. The provisions of the KEM hospital are made under the National policy for rare diseases 2021.
