National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) Berhampur is a value driven institution imparting technical education towards achieving academic excellence. The Institute was the brain child of a group of academicians and technocrats. What makes the Institute distinct is the professional orientation as the guiding principal for both students and teachers. It is the first NRI educational venture in the state of Odisha and first engineering college under Berhampur University and southern Odisha. The primary objective of the founders was to promote NIST as a center of academic excellence and research at par with international universities in their home state of Odisha.

In Keeping with its core value, mission and vision, NIST has become a top notch institute in the state and country since its establishment in 1996.

Research

National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) is a pioneer institute in Research and Development (R&D) activities in the State of Odisha. Right from its inception in the year 1996, NIST has been involved in numerous R&D activities. NIST has received a huge amount fund (6.6 Crores) for Research Project from different Govt funding agency (SERB/ DST/NBHM/CSIR/UGC/DRDO/ISRO etc.) during last 5 years. The institute has set up modern laboratories and the supporting infrastructure for undergraduate and post graduate and Ph. D. students. A research orientated education at this Institute can enhance engineering science to development of new technology. NIST has successfully implemented Under Graduate Research program and student RAs and Summer Interns have done commendable research work.
