Overview 

In 2007 the Institute of Law, Nirma University (ILNU) was established. Padmashri Dr. Karsanbhai K. Patel had founded the Nirma Education and Research Foundation in 1994. The law institute was formed under this. The institute seeks to introduce a paradigm shift in the field of legal education in our country.

It offers to launch a fresh dimension to it by incorporating world-class standards and bringing in an excellent ambience of thinking processes and intellectual exchanges.  

The ILNU offers an array of courses starting from five-year integrated undergraduate courses to doctoral research and executive diploma programmes.  

ILNU facilitates Student Exchange Programs as part of its multi-layered association with foreign law schools and universities. Sharing resources and faculties are other ways of cooperation. 

ILNU is committed to research and development in the field of legal education. There are many research centers to promote research activities and development. The institute strives to impart quality education and experiences to the students and to produce a new generation of leaders.      

Courses Offered

The institute offers two five-year integrated undergraduate courses - BA, LL. B. (Hons.) and B.Com., LL. B. (Hons.). One year LL M. degree is offered for two subjects of specialization – (1) Constitutional and Administrative Law and (2) Criminal and Security Law. The extensive course syllabus and eminent faculty members make the courses stand among the top-notch available in the country.

Apart from these, the students are also offered part-time and full-time doctoral programmes. Executive diploma programs are also offered.

5-Year Integrated BA, LL. B. (Hons.) and B.Com., LL. B. (Hons.)Candidates seeking admission to the courses in the Institute of Law, Nirma University must have passed the HS/Intermediate Examinations (10+2) or its equivalent examinations with at least 45% aggregate marks. Admission is based on the all-India merit ranking of CLAT 2021.
1-year LL. M. CourseThe candidates can pursue LL. M. in two different areas – (1) Constitutional & Administrative Law and (2) Criminal & Security Law. There are 15 seats in each course. Candidates looking to pursue the LL. M. course from ILNU must have passed 3 years LL. B. program after graduation or 5 years integrated law degree recognized by the Bar Council of India. They should have secured a minimum of 55% of the total marks. 
medical programmeThe candidates must hold a postgraduate degree with 55% or equivalent from a recognized university.

Admission Process

• Admission shall be based on All India Merit Rank of CLAT

• The desirous candidates of applying to the institute will have to appear in the CLAT examination.

• The application is available online only.

Ranking

The Institute of Law, Nirma University is a part of the Nirma University which has been given an A grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council or NAAC.

The Institute of Law, Nirma University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat is  ranked 7th in the category of private law colleges in India by IIRF 2024 rankings.

International Statistics 

ILNU seeks to make the academic experience for the students a truly global one. With this purpose in view, ILNU has made a strategic alliance with foreign subject experts and universities. International dignitaries visit the institute as guest facilities and they take an active part in the teaching and training process. This is normally held for five weeks every year. There are also student exchange programmes. Legal writing and international arbitration are some of the skill-based courses that are offered to the students. Placements 

The institute has a robust placement policy and provides full placement support to the students. Thanks to their well-laid-out placement policy, the institute has become a happy hunting ground for the head hunters. About 70% of their students get regularly placed, and the highest salary package offered has been around 8 lakhs per annum. The list of recruiters of the ILNU is quite impressive and includes names like Adani Ltd., Fox Mandal & Co., Future Generali Insurance, HDFC Bank, NIF India, Bharucha and Partners, Amarchand Mangaldas, Center for Social Justice, Economic Law Practice, OP Khaitan and Co., ANM Global, Surana & Surana International Attorneys, etc. 

The model of placement at ILNU is a four-stage process that includes career guidance, pre-placement activities, the placement itself, and then a threadbare review. The placement process is preceded by a continuous training process, summer and winter vacation internships, continuous interaction with the industry, participation in seminars, moot courts, debates, etc., counseling, and seminars given by distinguished guest speakers. Therefore at the end of the day, the students become industry-ready and extremely employable. 

Many ex-students of ILNU occupy important positions in the corporate sector, PSUs, judiciary, and law firms.
