Overview

The Assam Kaziranga University is situated in Jorhat, Assam, and was established as a private university in 2012 by the University Grant Commission (UGC). The university offers more than 50 courses in vocational, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs at different schools at the university, like engineering & technology, business, basic sciences, computer sciences, social sciences, and health sciences.

The university gives special emphasis on the practical skills development of the students. They have collaborated with more than 45 national and international organizations in both academic and industrial fields to exchange students, knowledge, and faculties with them. The university organizes guest lectures from top industrialists and several workshop programs to make their students learn about the working environment along with global exposure.

The university currently has over 3100 students and more than 140 faculty members who have expertise in their recognized field of education. They provide theoretical knowledge along with the practicality of the subjects that helps students with their academic as well as practical skills in subjects. Professional courses like MBAs and engineering offer various chances to get placed during their academic session in campus placement drives. The placement cell at the university organizes many campus placement drives and the highest package received by anyone from the current session was 12 lakhs per annum.

The university offers several clubs for extracurricular activities like literature, community, art & culture, entrepreneurship, and many more. The students have a chance to excel in any field at the university. The Assam Kaziranga University is ranked 105th in all India and the 3rd state university of Assam by the IIRF University Rankings 2023 among the top universities in India.

Course Highlights

The university offers different courses under a number of schools in various specializations. Some of them are mentioned below.

• The School of Business offers courses like BBA, B.Com, MBA, and Ph.D in various specializations such as marketing, finance, human resources management (HRM), operations, hospital administration (HA), and many more.
• The School of Engineering and Technology offers courses like B.Tech, M.Tech, B.Voc, and Ph.D in various specializations such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science engineering, automobile engineering, electrical systems and maintenance, and many more.
• The School of Basic Sciences offers courses like B.Sc, M.Sc, and Ph.D in various specializations such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, biotechnology, and more.
• The School of Health Sciences offers courses like D.Pharma, B.Pharma, B.Sc, M.Sc, and Ph.D in various specializations such as medical laboratory technology, physiotherapy, optometry, microbiology, and many more.
• The School of Social Sciences offers courses like BA, BSW, MSW, and Ph.D in sociology.
• The School of Computer Sciences offers courses like BCA, B.Sc, M.Sc, MCA, and Ph.D in various specializations.

Admission Process

The candidates need to follow the given process to get admission into the university.

• There are three ways to apply for admission to the university. One is to apply online, the second is to apply by post, and the third is to directly visit the office at the university.
• In every way, the students have to fill in an application form with the required personal details and upload the necessary documents like marksheets and certificates of previous academic records.
• The candidates have to pay an application fee of Rs 500 to submit the application form.
• The candidates then have to appear in the entrance examination organized by the university and score a cutoff mark to proceed further.
• The students with the cutoff marks are then called for counseling, where they have to go through a group discussion and a personal interview.
• The university will declare a merit list of selected candidates and the students need to pay the admission fee to confirm their seats.

Results and Cut off

Students with good academic records and cutoff marks in  entrance examinations organized by the university are preferred for admission. For admission to B.Tech, the university offers admission on a valid score card in JEE mains and Assam state entrance examinations along with their own entrance exam. For admission to an MBA, several national entrance examinations like CAT, XAT, and MAT are taken along with the university entrance test. For an undergraduate course, the students need to have passed the 10+2 examination with at least 45% from a recognised board of education in India. For a master’s degree, students are required to have an undergraduate degree in similar specializations with at least 50% marks. For Ph.D, the university follows the norms given by the UGC.

Placement

The placements at the university can be considered good as the students from professional courses like MBAs and B.Tech are provided with a number of campus placement drives. The students from both disciplines got the highest placement of 12 lakhs per annum and the average placement offer for MBA is 5.14 lakhs per annum and for B.Tech it is 4.26 lakhs per annum. The placement cell at the university calls over 70 companies in an academic session. The major recruiters are TCS, NMS, Mphasis, HealthPlix, JK Tyre, Karvy, Wipro, Super Auto Forge, and many more.

• Abhishek Baruah was a student of MSc Chemistry, Class of 2015 and is working as a Senior Officer for Oil India Limited, Duliajan.
• Banashree Gogoi was a Ph.D Candidate (Chemistry), working as a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant at Arizona State University.

Campus Facilities

The campus of the university is located in Jorhat, Assam. The campus is equipped with all the facilities like hostels, libraries, laboratories, auditorium, transportation, medical, sports grounds, gym, and many more.

The hostel at the university offers different kinds of rooms, like 4 seaters, 3 seaters, 2 seaters, and air conditioned rooms. There are separate blocks for boys and girls, and there are separate gyms to do intense workouts for physical fitness.

The central library of the university has a lot of academic books along with journals, magazines, and other necessary books to complete the academic sessions of the students. The laboratories are well equipped with the necessary instruments, chemicals, and apparatus that are needed by the students to complete their practical's in each subject.

The university also offers transport services for the students at the hostel, which operate two days a week. There are more transport facilities for the day scholar students and the staff who have local residences. The university provides a medical check ups facility for the students by organizing several camps.

The auditorium hosts a number of events like annual functions and other cultural and technical fests, where the students get an opportunity to showcase their abilities in extracurricular activities. The sports grounds are used for organizing a number of sports tournaments to promote physical fitness in students.
