Overview

GLS stands for Gujarat Law Society which is one of the oldest and most respected educational institutions in the state of Gujarat, India. It was founded in 1927 and promoted by prominent historical figures such as Sardar Vallabbhai Patel and Shri Ganesh Mavlankar. In 2015 the GLS University was founded as a private university in Ahmedabad under the Gujarat Private Universities Act 2015.  

The GLS Institute of Design is one of the top 10 design institutes in the country. This institute functions under the GLS University of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. They provide students with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in various design courses with different specialisations such as product design, fashion design, communication design, and environment design. 

GLS Design Institute features industry-standard infrastructure for providing the best and most professional education to the students to help them succeed in their careers. GLS Institute of Design offers a four-year bachelor's degree in design and another option for a five-year integrated masters degree in design courses. Both these courses are curated specifically to help students learn all the skills and knowledge necessary to get placed in the industry. The institute also provides placement and internship assistance in top MNCs around the world. Summer internships are also an integral part of the course curriculum at GLSID; they help students gain professional and practical experience by working for international companies such as Spotify.

Course Highlights

• GLS Design Institute offers a range of unique courses that aspiring designers can apply for, including a fours years UG and five years PG integrated programme in Interior and Space Design. Students willing to learn about interior and space design can directly apply for the integrated course to receive the best education in the country.

Admission Process

GLS Institute of Design only allows offline admissions currently. To avail of admissions in the institute, candidates are required to collect the admission form from the campus. The forms need to be diligently filled along with supporting documents and submitted back to the university campus for successfully enrolling in the admission process at GLSID.

After submitting the form, the students are required to appear for the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) held by the university. The university fixes the test dates according to the admissions schedule. This test aims to extract the most talented and creative individuals who can then be nurtured and guided by the university to become leading industry professionals.

The candidates that successfully clear the first entrance test are called upon for an interaction round at the university campus. The interaction round is a personal interview round that is used to select the final candidates that will be awarded admission privileges.

After the two selection rounds, selected candidates can pay the admission fees and complete their admission process at the GLS Institute of Design.

Results and Cut-off

For admissions at GLS Institute of Design, applicants are required to have 10+2 equivalent education from any recognised board in the country. There are no score cutoffs for admissions to the university; however, scores above 50% in the higher secondary level of education can help secure admissions in the university.

The admission process requires candidates to sit for an entrance test called the Design Aptitude Test. Based on the entrance test results and a personal interview conducted in the second round, selected candidates are awarded admission to the university.

Alumni Network

Even though the University is fairly new, the GLS Institute of Design has been able to provide the industry with great talents so far. The university's pass-out batches have remained in touch with their alma mater and helped their juniors with guidance and industry wisdom that can help the upcoming batches do better in their careers. 

In accordance with the university's faculty of the university often holds workshops and events for the students to help them learn about the professional experience in detail. The GLS Institute of Design boasts a spacious and open campus with lots of scenic greenery to soothe the eyes of the students. The spacious and open campus is planned strategically to help students get in touch with their ideas and create new and exciting design ideas. The huge campus also features a library with all the offline and online study materials needed by students. The library has books available for all the subjects in the curriculum at the university. Alongside books, reports, projects, and other online resources are also available for the benefit of students.

Physical exercise is at the core of a healthy lifestyle. The campus features both an indoor and outdoor sporting facility with regulation sporting facilities for multiple sports to promote physical activity among the students. High-tech computer labs are also made available for the practical education of the students. These laboratories feature industry-standard equipment that the students can use to get accustomed to the working style of the design industry.

The campus also features air-conditioned classrooms that are comfortable and spacious to host classes in the utmost comfort of the students. There are also cafeteria services on the campus that is accessible to the students easily. It provides all types of veg and non-veg food options for the students.
