Overview

Central University of Andhra Pradesh holds a special place in the Indian University System. It was born out of a promise made by Government of India to fulfill the aspirations of people of Andhra Pradesh on the eve of bifurcation of the erstwhile composite state of Andhra Pradesh into Telengana and Andhra Pradesh. The University is established in 2018 in the district head quarter town of Anantapuramu in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. The Region has immense historical significance as it forms the part of the Vijayanagara Empire ruled by majestic king Sri Krishnadevaraya, among others. The folklore of the region is richly filled with the stories of Sri Krishnadevaraya’s people centric rule and several welfare measures. That apart the region is also known for its mineral deposits and salubrious climate of the Deccan Plateau. The region also is known for sericulture and horticulture crops. As a feather in the cap the global auto major KIA started its operations in a green field project, just 60 KMs away from Ananthapuramu city. Further Ananthapuramu is also a prominent educational hub with higher educational institutes such as Sri Krishnadevaraya university, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Government Medical College and a century old Government Arts College, apart from a host of engineering colleges.

Establishment of Central University of Andhra Pradesh heralds a new era in the sphere of higher education. With innovative academic programs which are socially and culturally relevant, the university is, poised for rapid growth in the years to come. Transforming students into knowledgeable and responsible citizens of the nation through value based education with an emphasis on interactive learning coupled with hands on experience is the hallmark of this new university. Accordingly, the university envisages to offer demand driven multi disciplinary courses focusing on experiential learning through several short and long term vocational courses in active collaboration with the industry.

Department of Economics
The Department of Economics at the Central University of Andhra Pradesh, Ananthapuramu, has been dedicated to fostering high-quality teaching since its establishment in 2018. The Department offers a range of programs including B.Sc. (Hons) Economics, M.Sc. Economics, M.Sc. Economics & Data Analytics, and Ph.D. in Economics. The teaching and learning environment at the department is characterized by a diverse array of academic offerings and exposure to various economic paradigms. The curriculum is designed to strike a balance between theoretical analysis and quantitative reasoning, with a strong emphasis on discussing economic theories and their real-world applications. About Programme The Department of Economics at the Central University of Andhra Pradesh, Ananthapuramu, has been at the forefront of academic excellence since its inception in 2018. Offering a range of programs designed to meet the evolving needs of students and the demands of the modern economy, the department provides a comprehensive education in economics. Under the undergraduate (UG) program, the department offers the B.Sc. (Hons.) Economics program, while the postgraduate (PG) program includes the M.Sc. Economics program. Building on this strong foundation, the department is set to introduce new programs, including the M.Sc. Economics & Data Analytics and Ph.D. programs, starting from the 2024-25 academic year. As part of the curriculum, students are exposed to practical learning experiences through summer internships, community service internships, field surveys, and dissertation projects, enriching their academic journey. The PG programs offer a specialized curriculum including courses in Econometrics, Time Series Analysis, Applied Econometrics, Statistics, and Database for Economics, preparing students for advanced analytical roles. Additionally, students also engage in computer application-oriented courses such as Research Methodology and Data analysis with SPSS, Data Analytics with Python, and Economics of Artificial Intelligence. The Department of Psychology was founded in 2021 to equip the student with the knowledge and skills to apply psychology in various areas of personal and professional life. The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the scientific discipline of psychology, with a focus on practical application. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science is one of the new Postgraduate programmes being offered by CUAP from 2021-22 academic year. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science are very close and fastest growing fields in contemporary scenario. AI is a branch of computer science that aims to create intelligence showcased by machines (computers and automation systems) in distinction to the natural intelligence of humans. The major goals of AI and Data Science are to attain success in knowledge reasoning, planning, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, data analytics and data engineering. The vision of the programme is to impart knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, the program focuses on training students to become analytical experts and critical thinkers in research and industry. The course is designed to encourage students to reason with data and build models which can predict future outcomes. In this program, we aim to prepare students to work in various fields ranging from Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Data Engineering and Data Analytics. A student completing this program will be capable to undertake careers in industry as well as academia nationally and internationally. Department of Mathematics & Computing
The Department of Mathematics was established in the Academic Year 2021-22. In view of present industry and technology requirements/demands, the Department name has changed into Department of Mathematics and Computing from the Academic Year 2025-26 onwards. The Department of Mathematics and Computing offers a two-year M.Sc. programme in Mathematics and Computing, which is an advanced version of the traditional M.Sc. Mathematics programme. This updated curriculum reflects the growing importance and intersection of Mathematics and Computer science in various fields including Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Data Science (DS). This programme consists of core mathematics courses, which are helpful to the students to clear the national and international level competitive exams like CSIR-NET, GATE, SET, and Ph.D.. This programme also covers foundational level courses like Python and ‘R’ software for programming, Introduction to AI and ML for understanding the practical and techniques in AI, ML and DS. The Department has well equipped labs to provide hands on sessions for the students to improve the programming skills through the advanced mathematical and computational software such as MATLAB and MATHEMATICA. Furthermore, the Department recommends the latest courses in mathematics, statistics, computer science, and related fields through MOOC courses each semester. The Department of Molecular Biology at the Central University of Andhra Pradesh was established during the academic year 2022–23. The Department commenced its flagship Programme of M.Sc. in Molecular Biology and has since expanded its academic offerings to address to the cater the young minds in emerging areas of biological sciences. The Department is committed to provide a strong foundation in modern biological sciences through interdisciplinary education, innovative research, and advanced laboratory training. It nurtures creative, ethical, and independent ability for stakeholders by integrating contemporary biological disciplines with cutting-edge technologies and hands-on learning. The Department of Molecular Biology currently offers four academic programmes: M.Sc. in Molecular Biology, M.Sc. in Genomic Science, Post Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics and Data Science, and Post Graduate Diploma in Green Energy and Environmental Management. The Central University of Andhra Pradesh (CUAP) is committed to promoting inclusive, equitable, and accessible higher education for all eligible students. As part of its commitment to social inclusion, the University provides educational support and applicable fee concessions to students belonging to Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and Dependent (DP) categories, subject to the prevailing Government of India rules and University regulations.

The Central Library plays a vital role in supporting the academic and research activities of the University. It continuously enriches its collection of books, textbooks, and reference materials, carefully aligning them with the curriculum and research requirements. The library is fully automated using Koha, ensuring efficient and user-friendly services for faculty, students, and research scholars.

The library houses a rich collection of over 35,642 books (7,000 titles), along with 201 dissertations and 150 CDs/DVDs. It also subscribes to 14 print journals and magazines and 10 newspapers in Telugu and English. In addition, users have access to more than 15,000 e-journals, including a large number of peer-reviewed full-text resources and content available through ONOS & JSTOR.

To strengthen digital learning, the library provides access to over six lakh e-books and postgraduate resources through platforms such as ILMS and the National Digital Library of India. A dedicated section is also available to support students preparing for competitive examinations.

The library actively promotes research awareness and digital literacy by organizing workshops and user orientation programs. Notable initiatives include a national workshop on “AI and Open Access: Boosting Research Visibility and Ethics” and awareness sessions on e-resource platforms. The University has further strengthened its digital access by signing an MoU with the INFLIBNET Centre.

The library is well-equipped with modern facilities, including two spacious WiFi-enabled reading halls, 13 computers for accessing e-resources, and photocopying and printing services. It also ensures inclusive education by supporting visually impaired students with assistive technology like Kibo XS and providing access to Sugamya Pustakalaya by the DAISY Forum of India, offering books in accessible formats such as audio, Braille, and DAISY.

Computer Science being both a theoretical and application-oriented discipline, the laboratory serves as a platform where conceptual knowledge is translated into hands-on programming and real-time problem solving.

The major objective of the Computer Science Laboratory is to provide practical training in programming, data structures, database management, software development, data analysis, and emerging technologies. It enhances computational thinking, technical proficiency, research competence, and professional skills required in the field of computer science and information technology.

The laboratory supports observational astronomy, astrophysical data analysis, Earth observation studies, and simulation-based research. It facilitates activities such as celestial observations, image processing, spectral analysis, satellite data interpretation, and computational modelling for applications including astrophysics, planetary science, cosmology, space environment studies, and remote sensing-based geospatial analysis.

The Multimedia English Language Lab is an advanced language learning solution designed to enhance students’ proficiency in English through interactive and technology-driven methods. The lab consists of 60 Student Consoles and 1 Teacher Console, enabling effective individual and group-based learning. English, being a global language of communication in education, business, and international relations, demands strong listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. This Language Lab, developed by SoftX Technologies Private Limited, adopts a proven methodology of Listening, Understanding, and Speaking to ensure long-term language retention. Students practice pronunciation, phonetics, intonation, and communication skills using headphones and microphones, allowing self-evaluation and improvement. The Teacher Console facilitates real-time monitoring, two-way voice interaction, group discussions, and assessments, ensuring personalized guidance. The system is cost-effective, user-friendly, and easy to install. The software was purchased on 03 January 2024 and installed on 10 January 2024 at the Central University of Andhra Pradesh, supporting academic and professional language development.

The major objective of a Psychology Laboratory is to provide practical training in understanding, measuring, and analysing human behaviour scientifically. It enhances research competence, analytical skills, and professional development in the field of psychology.

The laboratory is equipped with standardized psychological tests, experimental apparatus, and assessment tools related to intelligence, personality, memory, learning, attention, perception, aptitude, and reaction time. It enables students to conduct experiments, administer and interpret psychological tests, and develop research skills.

The lab helps in assessing variations among individuals in intelligence, personality, emotions, motivation, and abilities through standardized tools. It connects theoretical knowledge with practical application. Students can verify psychological principles learned in class through experiments and demonstrations. The lab emphasizes ethical guidelines in research, such as informed consent, confidentiality, and respect for participants.

Overall, the Psychology Laboratory plays a vital role in enhancing scientific thinking, observational skills, analytical ability, and ethical practice among students, ensuring holistic academic and professional development.

 

 

The Space Science Laboratory:

The Space Science Laboratory (Vikram Sarabhai Laboratory) is equipped with advanced astronomical instrumentation, including an Optical Telescope (Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ, Newtonian Reflector), along with remote sensing and satellite data analysis software, high-performance computational systems, and space data processing tools. The laboratory supports observational astronomy, astrophysical data analysis, Earth observation studies, and simulation-based research. It facilitates activities such as celestial observations, image processing, spectral analysis, satellite data interpretation, and computational modelling for applications including astrophysics, planetary science, cosmology, space environment studies, and remote sensing-based geospatial analysis. 

The laboratory is actively used for teaching, practical training, data analysis, and research support in space science, astrophysics, and remote sensing technologies.

The Multimedia English Language Lab is an advanced language learning solution designed to enhance students’ proficiency in English through interactive and technology-driven methods. The lab consists of 60 Student Consoles and 1 Teacher Console, enabling effective individual and group-based learning. English, being a global language of communication in education, business, and international relations, demands strong listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. This Language Lab, developed by SoftX Technologies Private Limited, adopts a proven methodology of Listening, Understanding, and Speaking to ensure long-term language retention. Students practice pronunciation, phonetics, intonation, and communication skills using headphones and microphones, allowing self-evaluation and improvement. The Teacher Console facilitates real-time monitoring, two-way voice interaction, group discussions, and assessments, ensuring personalized guidance. The system is cost-effective, user-friendly, and easy to install. The software was purchased on 03 January 2024 and installed on 10 January 2024 at the Central University of Andhra Pradesh, supporting academic and professional language development.

The Central University of Andhra Pradesh (CUAP) is committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive and ragging-free academic environment in accordance with the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009 and subsequent amendments. The University undertakes preventive and awareness measures to ensure strict compliance with applicable anti-ragging norms and to protect the dignity, safety and well-being of all students.

The Anti-Ragging Committee shall function in accordance with the UGC Regulations and subsequent amendments. It shall ensure strict compliance with anti-ragging measures, create awareness among students, monitor preventive mechanisms, and look into complaints related to ragging, recommending appropriate action as per applicable norms. The Committee contributes to maintaining a respectful, disciplined and supportive campus environment for students.

ST/SC/OBC Cell

The Central University of Andhra Pradesh (CUAP) has established the SC/ST/OBC Cell to ensure the effective implementation of the constitutional provisions, Government of India policies, and University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines relating to the welfare and empowerment of students and employees belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).
